I've been having a very similar experience, and in fact just got those error messages this morning as well. If I reload the page (sometimes it takes several tries to reload), then everything is ok.

I'm running Windows XP, 32 bit, using Firefox 3.5

I've been having similar issues from my end - both at work and at home. Maybe we're under attack. *dons tinfoil helmet*

Please record all such events, noting the date, time (please convert to GMT), your country, and type of internet connection.

Post the data in this thread (or on the facebook page), so I have something solid to present to the isp. I am aware it is a problem, but unless I can show it is happening to many people, they may just say "lol it's just you".

The discussion with tech support essentially amounts to "reinstall phpbb" :|

That is ... sub-optimal.
Have they no advice for fixing an existing setup?

It seems to have got worse over the last week - they haven't updated anything recently, have they?

:| I feel your pain Ash. Can they give you the reason of the underlying cause? For example, why would I get that error, and then after force reloading the page, the error goes away? Very frustrating. I wish I knew more about phpbb so that I could help track down the cause - unfortunately I don't know anything about it.

Getting same errors as listed above here in the States on every thread and board. I don't think it has anything to do with providers or time of access at this point. :(

I wonder if this one will save.....

I just ran a repair/optimise on the sql database. Please continue to report any instances of board failure, either here or on the facebook group.

Probably next weekend I'm going to upgrade to the latest version of the forum backend software.

The Piazza has vanished twice in the last hour (it is 9.56 GMT at the moment). I suggest that everyone bookmark the URL of the Facebook group for The Piazza just in case we get a major outage.

The Facebook group is where we will be given any updates if the forum goes totally down.

I took it down a couple of times in order to try patching it. And I think I've discovered that if the software is NOT the issue, then patching certainly made no difference at all.

Thanks Ash.

I know you are working hard on this. I wonder if the people at the phpBB support forums can help you track down the problem.

If it's not the software, surely it must be a server-side issue?

btw - got a blank page even after your patching, so you're right about it not making a difference.

I am still periodically getting the ""*" icon replacing "P" icon and pages not loading" issue, and that does not seem like it would be the software, as it is only a tiny favicon file.

I just hope there isn't corruption in the database. I was on another forum (a vBulletin one) and our admin had to go back two or three weeks to get an uncorrupted backup. :?
