Dragonhelm wrote:I think leaving OA alone and folding Kara-Tur into it is the way to go. Since there isn't enough traffic to talk about L5R in its own forum, having an OA forum is perfect. What I would do is open it up to talk about Kara-Tur, L5R, Mahasarpa, third-party Oriental games, and homebrew Oriental settings. It then becomes a catch-all that has you covered on all bases. Then perhaps some appropriate tagging, like [Kara-Tur] and [L5R] would help.
The Oriental Adventures forum is open to all of that already. Sadly, there just isn't as much traffic in the forum, as there is in other forums.

I was hoping to see more talk about Shattered Lands of Royodo. That sounded really really interesting, and I was really looking forward to it. ;(
Dragonhelm wrote:I would place OA under Other Worlds, then have a Kara-Tur redirect under the Realms. I would not place a Kara-Tur redirect anywhere else.
I don't think I would do it that way (and Ash would probably have to make Kara-Tur a subforum anyway) but it is a valid option. Maybe a re-vote is in order.

Been debating this for a while now before replying, and weighing the options presented. Ultimately, I think I'd go with Trampas' suggestion, which was the "original" situation- have an Oriental Adventures forum, and (if necessary) sub-forums there for Kara-Tur, Rokugan, Mahasarpa, etc. There just isn't quite enough traffic in any of the individual existing OA sub-fora or fora to warrant the split that we currently have, and with one "uber" OA forum, it would be easily accessible to anyone seeking information on a particular "Oriental" themed setting. It really wouldn't be that confusing- IMO- to have to look to Oriental Adventures for Kara-Tur information, rather than trying vainly to find it in the Realms forum.

If traffic on any of those forums jumps up enough to justify moving it/them again, we could revisit it at that future point. (Example, we get a rash of Kara-Tur lovers posting all kinds of info on it, maybe it could be moved back to Realms, or even given its own forum if it ramps up enough). In the meantime, "All Things Oriental" could go there- heck, I'd personally be tempted to put Sindhi, Ochalean, or Pateran stuff for Mystara there if we had an OA forum, if only to try and spur some outside (non-Mystara fan) discussion and traffic for the forum.

Alternatively, Jeff's suggestion could work, too- settings in their separate Master Forums, and OA "generic" posts in one of the rules forums (with, hopefully, [OA] tags to separate them).

I did try to spark up discussion of the (vapourware) Orientlal SRD. A fan-based Oriental SRD project might give people things to talk about (as well as giving outsiders a reason to surf here and post questions).

Nael has recently gotten this going again. I'll see if I can get him over here to talk about Shattered Lands.

Oh, and let's not forget Dragon Fist!

Hey, if anybody can figure out if there was a map of Kara-Tur on Oerth that was in Dragon, please let me know what issue. Thanks!

OT, but where is this Ryodo website? I've seen a couple of references here on the boards, but can't seem to locate a url anywhere. My Google-Fu is failing me!

Might be due to a typo. Here you go. Please note, this is still in development.

I voted "other". What Dragonhelm said.

If the traffic gets bigger in the future then, split it up. Assuming Kara Tur would be the one getting the attention, fold it into FR, leaving an OA forum intact. If it was another setting, fold them into the "Other Worlds" forum.

Don't want to drag this out any further, but I started a thread as a response to this here.

Was any decision made in regards to the Oriental Advetures/Kara-Tur forums? I don't recall seeing anything on that.

I believe Ash means that she decided to leave things as they are (and look into this again later if it appears to be a problem).

I only inferred that, myself. I don't think I've heard the expression before.

Ya, I'm pretty sure it means something along the lines of 'preventing yourself from doing anything (as in avoiding a poor choice or action)'.

I looked it up and got three definitions:
  1. "to do nothing about a problem or a situation that needs dealing with"
  2. "Trying not to contact someone that you really shouldnt contact, for example: Your ex, someone you are chatting up and dont want to appear over keen to, your friends girlfriend that you have a crush on, etc." and
  3. Something about sitting on your hand until it doesn't feel like your own hand!
I think Ash meant option 1! :o :?

I think she meant, "There's no clear consensus about changing it, so let's leave it as it is."

Although most council officials seem to use the first definition you listed. ;)
