[Chainmail] Sundered Empire: Regions and Organizations

“You think your people will be free? You think you have escaped me? You mortals will have nothing but war, not a moment of peace until a new God of War rises to replace me.” Discuss the Sundered Empire featured in the Chainmail campaign setting, as it relates to pen & paper RPGs, here.

[Chainmail] Sundered Empire: Regions and Organizations

Post by Cthulhudrew » Mon Oct 20, 2008 9:45 am

This is just a brief overview; I'll try and flesh this out a bit more when I can.

Ahmut's Legion: An undead army led by Ahmut and necromancers.
Drazen's Horde: Hobgoblin tribes united by Drazen.
Kilsek: An exiled drow house in the service of Mistress Venrit.
Mordengard: Socialist dwarves who overthrew a tyrant years ago.
Naresh: Gnolls and demons led by Jangir, priest of Yeenoghu.
Ravilla: Elvish nation.
Thalos: Humans and gnomes whose ancestors were elven slaves.
Northwind Dueling Societies: Groups of elves who specialize in duels.

I think you have your names mixed up here the North Wind Society is the name of one of the Gray Elf dueling societies. Another one is the Snakestrike Society.

The societies all specialise in duels with exotic weapons. North Wind duelists specialise in a two-bladed sword and Snakestrike duelists specialise in a spiked chain. They were created shortly after the Demon War and before The Empire of Ravilla was founded. I'm not totally sure, but I suspect that each society was founded in a different Gray Elf city-state.

I also found these articles:

Role Models: Preparing for War 286
Role Models: Painting Your Warbands 287
Let's Fight 288

Preparing for War is about painting a Chainmail warband, but there really isn't anything of use to someone trying to work out the campaign setting.
Painting Your Warbands is a painting guide for the various miniatures of Thalos, rather than something about the campaign setting. But it could be useful to anyone wanting to extrapolate additional organisations from the miniatures.
Let's Fight is about rules, rather than the campaign setting, but it does mention Thalos and Naresh forces. Anyone trying to extrapolate names of regional organisations from cruncy material might want to give this a once over.
