Tortle Package in the Io's Blood (very mild spoilers)

Reading the Tortle package I'm struck by how easily the adventure could be shifted to the Io's Blood.
The island could be a small island in the tropical regions of the archipelago. If using the 5e CoW conversion by Marsupialmancer a team of about 3 wrymling PCs would be about right. Using my race design book's Young dragons I think a young brass dragon with one class level leading three 3rd level kindred would be about right.
The environment is much like the jungle islands of the boxed set. A purist might make one or more of the following tiny changes.

Replace the human and aasimar in the backstory with elves or Yuan-ti.
The Umberlee cult might have been a yuan-ti snake god cult.
Where the architecture has a tenticles motif replace with carvings of snake tails.
Replace Tortle NPC's and settlements with lizardfolk.

EDIT: Oh, you mean this Tortle Package expansion for Tomb of Annihilation on DMs Guild. :)

Sounds like great adaptations of this material. As you said this would be for purists, but I think it would be a shame to include the Tortle Package and not include Tortles. But then I am a Mystara fan and have loved Tortles since the classic Mystara adventure Tortles of Purple Sage for the Savage Coast.

Is there anywhere on the map (or off the map) that would seem to be a more logical homeland for Tortles? (Should they live closer to the equator, for example?)

Would Tortles fit in well with Dragon Turtles (thematically)? Could Dragon Turtles work (in the Council of Wyrms) as some sort of legendary Dragon/Tortle crossbreed monster?

Are there any other similar races or monsters that could give you some sort of collected ecology that works together?

There is a jungle island in the Eastern Archipelago with the right size, shape, climate and vegetation.
Dragon Turtles are the only intelligent draconic non-dragon present in the setting’s encounter tables. The DM could add whatever details he wanted to Tortle Mythology.
Card 10 of the boxed set lists random encounters for tropical terrains. These are a mixed bag with no theme beyond tropical. I’d declare that the Tortle island was a ‘lost world’ with dinosaurs but that isn’t cannon.
