Warhammer miniatures

The Old World. On the surface, it is a vast and fertile place, but a shadow hangs over the world, cast by the dark, corrupting hand of Chaos.

Warhammer miniatures

Post by Big Mac » Thu Feb 16, 2017 9:15 pm

I might not have played Warhammer much, but I've bought quite a few of their miniatures.

I really like the boxed sets, that give you a small armed force of twenty or so similar figures. I'm not the best person in the world, at modifying figures, but those boxed sets always include a few alternative heads and arms.

I had a box of skeletons at one point, but seem to have lost them somewhere along the way. More recently, I got a box of humans, that I've turned into a "spelljammer crew". ;)

Which Warhammer fantasy figures are your favourites?

Are there any that you have modified, to turn them into something else?

No I didn't paint this one. I have a copy never felt I could paint good enough to actually paint mine.

Nothing modified on this at all. Just based (it pre-dates the slotta base)

Ooh... I have six warhammer armies. Three large and three small. All painted, and a little bit of conversion work. I'm not sure I could pick my favorite!

So this is a really early Warhammer figure?

Do they still make this and/or the figures in the same army, or do they only keep each of the individual models in production for a fairly short amount of time?

Do you have uniforms for each army? Or do you put in colour themes, with some variations between individual models?

What sort of conversions do you do?

I've only ever done some minor conversion work on my minis.

I pick a color scheme for the army and then find ways to use it on each figure. Here, for example, is my dwarf army:

This one uses lots of blue and red with off-whites.

It looks like Photobucket has disabled your pictures. I saw that you added links to your picture and followed the link, but they have done the same over there.

Yeah, Photobucket is being a pain in the behind. I have switched to a new host now.

The hats on those elves are a bit bonkers, but I really like the elven "spelljamming ship" in the second picture. ;-)

Thanks! Yeah, the hats are pretty goofy. Warhammer high elves have pointy hats!

I'm thinking about making a Dragonship for this lot.

They do some fantastic minis, but some of their design choices are pretty off-putting to me. I tend to use the Warhammer minis I like and avoid going anywhere near some of the races that don't appeal to me.

Mind you, this sort of thing isn't limited to Games Workshop. Blizzard do elves with ears that are about 1 foot long.

I do feel sorry for the people who try to cosplay this stuff, when they have to deal with some of these things that are not really a problem in a lead figure. :D

Is that your own design, or are you copying something from a Games Workshop picture?

My own design, sort of. I found a bowl at a bronze shop that seems like it should work great.

I know what you mean. I have a collection of older figures, mostly metal, that double as D&D minis.
