Warhammer novels: What do you recommend?

The Old World. On the surface, it is a vast and fertile place, but a shadow hangs over the world, cast by the dark, corrupting hand of Chaos.

Warhammer novels: What do you recommend?

Postby Big Mac » Fri Jul 07, 2017 3:22 pm

With D&D campaign settings, I've been hunting down some of the novels to get the sort of vibe of those campaign settings. I sometimes find they have fun background details that are not in RPG books. But they also sometimes have great plot hooks in them.

I've just looked at the List of Warhammer Fantasy novels article on Wikipedia and it has a ton of books there.

Which novels do people think are the ones that best explain the Warhammer world? Do you have favourite Warhammer novel authors?

How much of a time period (in character) do the novels spread out across? Is there an in-character timeline that shows where all the novels fit?

I enjoyed the the Marienburg novels, but sadly the final book in the trilogy never came to be.

Is there a story about why the last book in the trilogy got cancelled?

Not that I am aware of, and I've done a little web digging.

For an absolute beginner with no experience at all with the setting, which novels should I read first?

I would recommend the Gotrek & Felix novels. They travel all over the Old World and meet many of the most iconic bad guys.
