Other planets/moons and Barsoom

“As you know I am not of Barsoom; your ways are not my ways, and I can only act in the future as I have in the past, in accordance with the dictates of my conscience and guided by the standards of mine own people.” All RPGs based on Edgar Rice Burroughs' Barsoom stories can be discussed here.

I limited the list to the races and cultures of Barsoom, as there are other planets and moons in the saga that are not in this list, as they are not from Barsoom.
I know that John Carter came from Earth.

How many other planets and moons are tied into the saga?

What sort of connection does each planet or moon have with Barsoom?

Would it be easy for PCs in a John Carter of Mars game to travel between the worlds (and moons) or are all of these connections restricted?

The Carter series itself written by ERB definitely confirmed that at least one of Mars' two moons has life. When traveling to the moon in a rocket, the rocket and everyone in it shrinks auto-magically as it approaches the moon, so its as big as a planet when they arrive on it.

I only vaguely remember the details from the 2 stories in the 11th 'book', but Jupiter or one of its moons has some kind of life on it. The story was unfinished (officially) however.

ERB also wrote a small series of books set on Venus, which have apparently been confirmed to be in the same universe(I swear I remember something in this context in an 'official' manner?), and a smattering of books that touched on other parts of the system (such as the moon) that may or may not be tied into the same setting. Most of Burroughs works could be placed in the same universe, to be honest, as they have very little (if any) conflicts with each other.

Here viewtopic.php?f=108&t=20780 you can find a link to a book where ALL planets and ALL related races and culture mentioned by ERB are listed and described.
As this is pulp fiction, of course you can go anywhere you want!
Enjoy!

Jasoom (known to its natives as Earth) :ugeek:
The planet is of course a romantic, XIX century-style projection of real-life Earth and is excessively complex, with many races, nations and secrets (such as Caspak and Pellucidar). Africa in particular has many secrets unknown to the great world, such as the lost valley of Pal-ul-don.

Intelligent races
Earthmen
Magani
Nipon

Creatures
Gorilla
Gryphs (Pal-ul-don)
Hodon (Pal-ul-don)
Helhounds
Ja (Pal-ul-don)
Lions
Snakes
Was-don (Pal-ul-don)

Caspak (as it is called by its native humanoid inhabitants), also known as Caprona by most Earthmen, isn't strictly speaking a planet or a moon, but it is arguably a separate world in itself, although located on the surface of the Earth.

Caspak supports a unique biological system for his lost world, in which the slow progress of evolution in the world outside is recapitulated as a matter of individual metamorphosis. Dinosaurs, mammals, and primitive humans coexist on the island.

Pellucidar is the interior world of the planet Earth
and
The Dead World, also known as the Pendent World, is the moon of Pellucidar. It hovers roughly a mile above the surface of Pellucidar.

Intelligent races
Azarians
Gilaks
Horibs
Mahar
Mammoth Men
Sagoth

Creatures
Dyal
Dyrodr
Dyryth
Gyor
Lidi
Maj
Orthopi
Snakes of Pellucidar
Tandor
Tarag
Trachodon
Zarith
