[Comics] Black & White

Post by Big Mac » Sat Aug 10, 2013 4:58 pm

Over in The Squishy Bits forum, Cthulhudrew said that Kenzer & Co published two comic book series that were set in Greyhawk. Then he found a third comic called Black & White, but did not have any information on it. I've just found out that Black & White had six issues:
  • Issue 1: Once a Thief...
    Image
Blurb: "A beautiful half-elven thief attempts to escape capture for having unwittingly stolen information that could expose a decades-long plans to overthrow the governments of central Flanaess. Join Tinelith and her companions, Snibb the gnome wizard and Benni the half-orc fighter, as they fight for their own survival - and perhaps a bit of profit - against those who work in darkness and think only in shades of gray."
  • Issue 2: New Friends, Old Enemies
    Image
Blurb: "In this issue, safely away from Rel Mord, the half-elven thief Tinélith and her friends believe themselves to be safe amongst the Nyrond countryside. Unfortunately for them, roadside bandits and tribes of ogres know the countryside, too. With nowhere to run to and nowhere to hide, our heroes flee into the woods, where they unexpectedly come face to face with new friends and old enemies."
  • Issue 3: Woodwych
    Image
Blurb: "After being taken prisoner by the rangers of Stalwart Pines, Tinélith and her cohorts are transferred to Woodwych. Will Tinélith's mysterious past be uncovered? Of course, there are bound to be surprising results that will shake the balance of power in Nyrond."
  • Issue 4: Lambs to the Slaughter
    Image
Blurb: "Tinélith and her band of adventurers continue to flee from their royal pursuers when they are attacked by a band of fearsome bandits. Or are they? Random events begin to fall into place as the group begins to question whether or not they are even in control of their destiny."
  • Issue 5: The Return
    Image
Blurb: "Last issue, Rel Mord's Commander of the City Guardsmen, Grakin captured the travelers, only to let them escape as part of an elaborate plan to frame the group as rebels carrying plans to overthrow the Nyrondan monarchy. As they escaped, the thorns of a poisonous plant scratched Snibb. As we join the group, they have made it to the town of Beetu in southern Nyrond…"
  • Issue 6: Coming Home
    Image
Blurb: "Tinélith, a half-elf thief, Benni, the half-orc fighter, Snibb, a gnome wizard, and Bernleough, a human cleric attempt to avoid capture for the theft of government scrolls. In this issue, Tinélith skulks the lower levels of the Royal Castle of Rel Mord, pursued by Darzhellim, Bernleough and other unsuspected allies. Can Tinélith get the scrolls to King Lynwerd before they do? Or will the rebels capture her first, spinning the incident into one that incriminates her and exonerates them?"
Does anyone have these comics? How well do they fit into Greyhawk? Rel Mord and Nyrond is the focus of these comics. Does that tie in with other GH products well?

More importantly, could the Black & White comics be raided to give you a background story or NPCs for a tabletop game?

And do any of the characters from these comics appear in any other GH sources?

Ah, I see now- given that Nyrond is the location of this series, it makes sense that the Phostwood would be the location for its sequel; the Phostwood is just to the north of Nyrond.

Again, haven't read this one, but I'd be curious to know if anyone else has. Wasn't too impressed with the GH series that I did read, but I read an interview with the writer of this one and it sounded like very much a labor of love.

Time permitting, I'll link to that interview.

Here it is:

From April 2002, an interview with Jeff Limke, author of Black & White, at comicbookresources.com

(And Part 2 of the interview, although it doesn't look like he talks all that much about Black & White here).

As said on the other series' discussions... late contribution here...

My recent review of this mini-series :
https://kuronons.blogspot.com/2018/07/d ... ite-k.html

Known character : King Lynwerd (of Rel Mord)

Lots of known locations also : Rel Mord, Woodwych, Celadon Forest (with some mysterious hidden elven city called Stalwart), Beetu, Gnatmarsh, theocracy of the Pale (mentioned as a plot element)
