A milestone in my 4E Greyhawk Campaign

Postby JohnBiles » Tue Apr 06, 2010 12:36 am

The PCs just finished Expedition to Castle Greyhawk (adapted for 4E); now they're headed for the Bright Desert to go investigate who the Robilar running around with Rary is, as they rescued Robilar from the Castle Greyhawk Dungeons where he's been imprisoned for years...

And Iuz and Wastri are trapped in the Godtrap again.

Huge, huge fight at the Godtrap, PCs vs. a small army of foes, but they overcame.

This is the mid-point of the campaign, as they're now 15th level.

PCs are now teamed up with Robilar and they're going to go to the Bright Desert and try to find out about the 'Robilar' working with Rary.

Several groups they beat up before will come for them for revenge and they're going to meet a gourmet Red Dragon who is under Rary's control (Rary = has the Orbs of Dragonkind)

The Red Dragon's hoard was very fun to make:

Treasure: Ring of Shadowguard (AV1, L18), Shield of Protection (Paragon), Dwarven Plate +4, 200 PP, 20,000 GP, 5 barrels of saffron (1000 GP each), 3 casks of fine wine (1500 GP each), 1 300 GP barrel of Sumac, 1 300 GP barrel of Tailed Pepper, 1 300 GP barrel of Mastic, 1 300 GP barrel of Spikenard, 1 300 GP barrel of Grains of Paradise, 8 sacks of fine tea (150 GP each), 2 barrels of Nutmeg (150 GP each), 2 barrels of Mace (150 GP each), 2 barrels of Coriander (150 GP each), 14 200 GP sacks of Fine Coffee, 3 20 pound Adamantine Bars (5000 GP value, 4 by 9 by 2 inch), 5 1000 GP Mithral Bars (3 by 12 by 2), 5 400 GP bolts of Cloth of Silver, 3 Noble outfits, Scarlet dyed Cloth of Silver, 2000 GP each, 5 bolts of Silk (800 GP each) Pair of Ornate Mithril Earrings with Fire Opals (6000 GP)

He will offer to let the rest of them go if they'll just choose one of the party for him to eat. Or everyone can give him one arm! (He's fair, you see)

The party may be able to bluff him if they figure out he's working for rary, which they may learn from his lair guards.

Once they reach the desert, they'll learn Rary has bluffed Greyhawk, Hardby, and Urnst into attacking him so he can catch them in the desert and destroy them (they think he's close to achieving Godhood and they don't want another Realm of Iuz but RIGHT NEXT TO THEM if they can help it.) So then it will be WAR time.

Sounds like a fun campaign. Any plans about taking them to Blackmoor? :geek:

Depends on what they decide to do; Vecna wants them to take down Rary, so he is going to leak some clues to them which may send them all over to get the Rings of Dragonslaying to counter Rary's Orbs. (Rary plans to kill Vecna, steal his power, Vecna knows this, Rary doesn't know Vecna knows.)

Are these the same Orbs of Dragonkind from Dragonlance? If so, I didn't realise they were generic.

No, Greyhawk's Orbs of Dragonkind are different. The Orbs of Dragonkind were originally described in Eldritch Wizardry (1976) and different versions of them also appeared in the Dungeon Master's Guide (1979) and Book of Artifacts (1993). A version of the Orbs was incorporated into the history of Greyhawk in Dragon #230 (1996). They were created by the ancient Suloise as part of a war against the dragons of the southern Crystalmists (now known as the Hellfurnaces). See the Suel Imperium article in the Great Library.

The Orbs of Dragonkind that appeared in the Dragonlance saga are different artifacts, with different origins and powers.

My PCs are now delving into Maure Castle in search of anti-dragon lore to counter Rary's orbs and will be heading to the Rift Canyon and the Horned Society to obtain two ancient Baklunish counter-weapons later.

The PCs will encounter the infamous Iron Golem of Doom at the start of their next session.

I've finished my Maure adaptation for them, though we'll likely be in it for months of real time, since we only play every 2-3 weeks, unfortunately.

I've taken Eli Tormorast's group and set up Kerzit as the son of Malcanthet and Demogorgon; the cultists who serve Eli are divided between factions who serve one or the other of Kerzit's parents.

Maure Castle is going to be more and more full of weird stuff as they descend into it; the top level is mostly mundane rooms with a few oddities like the fountain; I'm adding in more leaks from the Elemental Chaos and the Abyss as they descend.

Kerzit's lair/prison will be full of freaky Abyssal stuff.

I'm using the four levels from the Dragon article as my base; I have more of the expansions but once they finish that, they'll be off to the Riftcanyon to go hunting an epic level dragon who has one of the Rings of Dragonslaying.

Have you seen the Maure Castle stuff in Oerth Journal #23?
