How do Firearms work?

Post by Havard »

Are there any special rules for Firearms in Exandia? Is gunpowder considered magical?

What types of firearms exist? Only personal ones, or also cannons etc?

Can anyone learn to use one or is this restricted to certain classes/races?

There is a Gunslinger article on D&D Beyond that has most or all of the firearm rules for Critical Role.

See Big Mac's Link.
Gunpowder is non magical and alchemist in nature if I remember correctly.
Firearms are personal primarily in the first campaign and during the second I think there's a 20 year time skip so their starting to appear elsewhere.
I don't think we've gotten to cannons yet.
For the most part Percy learned and made them with no real training. Though in Campaign 2 they're considered state secrets in the Empire so it can vary.

Thanks guys!

Its a bit odd to me that they invented hand guns before cannons, but its a fantasy world so it doesnt have to follow real world historical developments.

Can gunpowder barrels be used as bombs?
