Simon Lipscomb on the Towers of High Sorcery

Post by Big Mac » Wed Sep 26, 2018 7:35 am

Simon Lipscomb has written an article for Dragonlance Nexus, called Towers of High Sorcery.

He challenges the number of towers that the Dragonlance canon says exist. His logic is that there are three moons and it doesn't make sense for the three orders based on the three moons to build 5 towers, rather than three (to match the moons).

He then comes up with a "Ben Kenobi solution" that makes the Dragonlance canon represent three towers..."from a certain point of view".

What do you think of his logic?

Is this something that ties in better with the theme of three Orders of High Sorcery following moons?

There were going to be 6 towers, but only 5 were built.

While Losarcum (Black), Daltigoth (Red), Istar (White) were built by a singular order, Wayreth was built by all 3, and Palanthus was White & Red before being cursed to Black.

Surely the logic was:

5 types of chromatic dragon; therefore,
5 dragon orbs; therefore,
5 towers of high sorcery.
