Mortals from the Gazetteers [rolls on Mortal Ascension Table]

Post by Knightfall » Wed Apr 11, 2018 9:55 pm

I'm now going to go through all the other references I have access to, as well as details on the various GAZs I don't own using this article on VoP as a guide: NPC Level Conversion BECMI to 5e. While The World Unknown is meant for 3E, that article is quite useful in finding details about all the canon NPC from GAZs.

I'll likely not worry too much about any results I get for 0-level NPC unless I get a strange result on the roll. Most of those NPCs will either live on peacefully to old age or will suffer a violent death. I don't foresee them being raised to become Exalted or becoming Immortals. They could end up being cursed or I might choose to give those who live some class levels. I haven't decided yet.

Karameikos NPCs
Since I have access to the AD&D 2E Mystara boxed set for Karameikos, the NPCs from it are included as well. (Plus, I've included two NPCs from Joshuan's Almanac that became very important in my Kulan version of Karameikos.) The two Hyraksos heirs get a pass, as I have decided their Fates (keep reading). Since Karameikos was Sundered during the Devestation War, the NPCs that survived become refugees that are forced to settle elsewhere. Most of the surviving hins (and some elves too) are given solace in the Five Shires. The rest of the refugees fled west on ships until they eventually came to the island continents of the Farend Ocean.

However, it was mainly Traladarans who chose to make this journey. The refugees of Thyatian heritage mainly chose to head east and try to help rebuild Thyatis, which was Devastated during the war. A few did decide to follow the surviving members of the Karameikos Royal Family who lead the migration west. Both Argent and Lucien grew up on the road and at sea, which made them tougher. Their mother, Princess Adriana, rose to become an Immortal during the Devastation War and their father, Lord Devon Hyraksos, was reincarnated into an elf in AC 1051 after nearly dying at the hands of a Bleak Assassin *. Their uncle, Prince Justin was also chosen by the Immortals to become one of the Blessed although his Fate changed significantly in AC 1142 when he was reincarnated into a dragon.

Prince Lucien lived well into his nineties and died in the year AC 1103. While Princess Argent didn't have as long a life, she became a renown adventurer and hero in the eyes of her people. When she died in AC 1088, her Immortal mother chose to raise her up to become a Titan of Matter. Justin became Regent of Karameikos in exile until Lucien was old enough, in Justin's eyes, to claim the crown (AC 1030). It was Justin who founded a new kingdom in the lands that would become known to the refugees as Farend. He named it New Karameikos **. He died without any human children (although as a dragon, well, that for a later time). King Lucien had only one child who turned out to be more like his great-grandmother, Queen Olivia, but slightly sadistic too. The boy died in his mid-20s during a knife fight on some nameless dock. Princess Argent had four children in her lifetime. Two grew up on the seas and became like their grandfather, Lucius. The other two were born after New Karameikos was founded and took to Royal life with gusto.

Argent and Lucien's father continues to live on to this day; he appears to be a full-blooded elf in his mid- to late-200s. He did not remarry until after his son passed away. He and his half-elvish wife now rule a new kingdom, which King Lucien renamed after his mother on his deathbed: Adrianaos. Devon took the name King Devaenbryl after his coronation; he does not use the surname Hyraksos anymore. His wife's name is Britrine Adza. They have three children of which one is a full-blooded elf and the other two are more human. Their children are the heirs to the Kingdom of Adrianaos much to the chagrin of Princess Argent's two youngest children (and their heirs).
* Fanatical servants of the Alien Immortals.
** No date for the founding yet.

All dice rolls on my various table are finished for the Karameikos NPCs. Anything else left undecided will be my choices. Suggestions are wecome, of course. -KF

DM Fiat
• Ludwig von Hendriks (is killed by adventurers in AC 1036 [see here])
— Born: AC 951
• Argent Hyraksos = Age at AC 1012: 3; Life Extension: Special Result (4); Max. Age: 79 (AC 1088); raised to Titan after death
— Born: AC 1009
• Devon Hyraksos (reincarnated into elf [see here])
— Born: AC 977
• Lucien Hyraksos = Age at AC 1012: 5; Life Extension: No; Max. Age: 96 (AC 1103)
— Born: AC 1007
• Lucius Hyraksos (died as per 2E boxed set)
— Born: circa AC 940
• Justin Karameikos (became one of the Blessed; reincarnated into dragon later in AC 1142 [see here])
— Born: AC 982
• Valen Karameikos (became a death knight in AC 1084 [see here])
— Born: AC 986
• Key-Hamintep [unique undead] = TBD
— Born:
• Marianita Lucia de Leon y Valdez (magical life extension)
— Born: Unknown; Marianita appeared to be a human in her mid-20s in AC 1012; she is listed as a 18th-level magic-user in GAZ1, so her age is likely much higher by that year. Her elvenblood ancestry likely makes her more like a half-elf. I am going to say she is a 45 year old half-elf at AC 1012. This puts her birth year at circa AC 967 and I am going to ad hoc her max. age to be the maximum allowed for a v.3.5 half-elf: 185 years old (AC 1152). With magical life extension, she lives an addition D% years: rolled 55. That makes her 233 years old at AC 1200.
• Teldon (no roll, died in AC 1009 fighting a clockwork beholder)
— Born: circa AC 890
• Misha Mananov = Becomes a Great Hero and dies a Saint; resurrected 210 years after violent death to become a living Saint

• Milenian Empire (TBD) *
• Neathar Lands (TBD)

Forced to become Refugees
New (lose knowledge of the outer world as time passes [within 30 to 80 years])
• Aquas = 4+3=7 (sea domes are left broken and dangerous; the people of Aquas are forced to migrate through the seas of the Hollow World)
• Ekto = 3+3=6 (lands are made nearly unlivable, which forces the people to leave; Septentriona eventually claims the region)
• Furmenglaive = 5+3=8 (lands destroyed by alien minions; lands conquered by Septentriona in the Hollow World)
• Glantri = 4+3=7 (most find solace in either the Azcan Empire or Nithia)
• Ierendi = 4+3=7 (are forced to become permanent seafarers, moving from port to port)
• Thyatis = 5+3=8 (the survivors settle in either Notrion or Septentriona; outcasts are forced to settle elsewhere [e.g. Ochalea])

Old

New Culture Emerges
New (merge with an existing Hollow World culture [knowledge of the outer world fades within 4 generations])

Destruction Table Results [Links]

Post by Knightfall » Fri Apr 20, 2018 11:28 pm

Okay, I've been going through my results for my rolls on the Destruction Table for all the regions of Mystara. I had to go back and reorganize everything so its clear for me (and all of you, I hope). I'd had these links at the top of the previous post but they really should have a dedicated post. (Well,, I think they should. :P ) Certain aspects of how hard eastern Brun was hit by the Alien Immortals becomes quite clear in the first two posts.
This all remains a work in progress.

TWU Timeline Thread

Post by Knightfall » Sat Apr 28, 2018 1:14 am

FYI, I'm almost ready to create a new thread dedicated to showcasing my alternate timeline for The World Unknown. I just need to add a few more details into it first before I post the second draft of the Roll of Years. The first draft can be seen here: viewtopic.php?p=211174#p211174

The World Unknown (Final Map)

Post by Knightfall » Mon May 07, 2018 5:56 am

I've just uploaded the finished hex map for the core region of The World Unknown onto my Otherworlds blog. You can read the post here and click to see the full-sized map here.

Note that this version very different to the previous version I posted here before. I went through and rework all the borders and changed significant partso f the landscape. There are also a lot less icons on the map, although I left the ruins of the key cities, towns, and other structures from the time period of the Known World. Only the most important icons have been named.

The year is AC 1200. The Five Shires has expanded to become the Ten Shires and controls much of what was once Old Karameikos. Ostland is an ever expanding empire that now rules over much of old Heldannic Territories and parts of the Isle of Dawn. There is a New Traladara built on the bones of the old Thyatis mainland and the lands new capital is called Traldarev; these are Traladaran survivors of Old Karameikos that chose not to migrate to the new lands of the Farend Ocean. The last true vestiges of the Empire of Thyatis exit in the Thyatian Thalassocracy (and in the Hinterlands on Davania), although some descendants have created new lands on the Isle of Dawn and among the altered islands of the Sunlit Sea.

The ruined lands of Old Aengmor have become the Kingdom of Tharheim. The orcs of the old Broken Lands moved into these new broken lands soon after the region stopped smoldering (for the most part). However, Tharheim isn't a land of just orcs. Elves live there too. It is a strange alliance based on the need for mutual protection against the Dictatorship of the Broken Inferno. What was once Rockhome has become the bastion of the remaining Alien Immortals and their minions (aberrations, twisted elementals, undead, etc).

Much of the region has been turned into desert including parts of Atruaghin, Darokin, Ethengar, Glantri, Wendar. In the Great Waste, Sind is gone (sent to the 'new' Hollow Dimension). Westrourke came out of the Devastation War nearly unscathed and has expanded to become a larger kingdom. (The Barony of Cazatus is a new vassal state of Westrourke.) Redstone, however, did not fare so well. It is now called the Islands of Bloodstone and it is full of monsters and worse.

Also note that the Adri Varma region was left (almost) completely unscathed. This had to do with Immortal intervention and a whole lot of luck (and backstabbing).

Cheers!

Re: [KF's Mystara] The World Unknown

Post by Knightfall » Thu Sep 26, 2019 8:39 am

Okay, so I'm done redesigning my Sundered Thyatis regional map for The World Unknown. I just have to figure out how many miles the hexes are supposed to represent and make sure I have a decent description for it before I put it up on my Otherworlds blog. Once it is 100% done, I'll post the description and the link here. That probably won't happen until late tomorrow. (In fact, much later today, as it is past 1:30 A.M. and i need to go to bed!)

After that, I'm going to go back to working on my Isle of Dawn map. Hmm, I don't think I've shared anything about that map yet as it is nowhere near done. EDIT: I might have shared it on Faceborg.

Okay, I so I never shared the Isle of Dawn map on Facebook (that I can find), so I've put the work in progress version of the map on my Otherworld's blog. You can see it here: https://almagraandotherworlds.wordpress ... e-of-dawn/

There is also a direct link to the full-sized version: https://almagraandotherworlds.files.wor ... ogress.jpg

Like the main map for The World Unknown, each hex is 24 miles.

Ha! I knew I shared it on Facebook once. I posted a previous version in the Mystara Facebook Group.

HEX MAP: Sundered Thyatis (Revised)

Post by Knightfall » Fri Sep 27, 2019 11:30 pm

Here is a link to the revised and finalized map for the region known as Sundered Thyatis. I've copied the map's description and posted it here too.

Link: Sundered Thyatis
Full-Sized Map: Hex Map

Sundered Thyatis
After the Devastation War ends in AC 1074, it takes another 101 years before a new Age of Heroes arises on Mystara. In the Old Known World, the expanding lands of the hin officially become known as The Ten Shires in AC 1175.

Before this time period, the Old Known World suffers through the war and a time period that will become known as the Second Traladar Dark Age. The Empire of Thyatis, along with Darokin, Glantri, and the Isle of Dawn are the hardest hit in the first year of the Devastation War (AC 1013). The Five Shires, the Kingdom of Karameikos, and the island realms of the Sunlit Sea are initially ignored by the Alien Immortals, but over the next few years they also come under attack.

Both Karameikos and Thyatis are left in ruins due to a massive tidal wave caused by the crash of an Alien Immortal Skysphere into the Sea of Dread. The tidal wave wipes most of the civilizations of the region including not only Karameikos and Thyatis but also Ierendri and the Minrothad Guilds.

However, a good portion (91%) of the Karameikos population survives with most of them deciding to migrate west (eventually all the way to Farend). The rest either stay in the region, to rebuild, or migrate to other lands. This is how New Traladara came into existance, for the Thyatians were not as lucky — only 41% of the population of mainland Thyatis survives (roughly 1,107,000).

The rest of Thyatis’ population is killed by the tidal wive, but the Immortals step in resurrects them in a new Hollow World created after the Alien Immortals find and invade the Hollow World. This new Hollow World is a hidden dimension created to be next to impossible for the Alien Immortals to find.

The surviving Thyatians are displaced to other lands with 42% of the survivors (roughly 464,940) choosing to flee across the Sea of Dread to the Thyatian Hinterlands on Davinia. Thos that remain behind in the Old Known World come either relocate to part of the Isle of Dawn (where welcome) or help build the foundations of what will become the Zendrolian Republic.

The toughest of these displaced Thyatians refuse to leave their homeland and once the waters recede, they reclaim much of what was once the County of Hattias, although that island was torn asunder by the tidal wave and battles between the Immortals of Mystara and the Alien Immortals. Eventually, a new island kingdom called the Thyatian Thalassocracy arises on these islands and old conflicts are renewed between the Thyatians and the Traladarans.

In these conflicts, it is the Thyatians that are primarily the underdogs, as New Traladara comes to claim most of what was once mainland Thyatis. Life is hardly perfect for the Traladarans, however, as they have enemies in not only the Thyatian Thalassocracy but also the Zendrolian Republic. The leaders of that republic see there land as the rightful heir to the old Empire of Thyatis and they work tirelessly to undermine New Traladara. The republic's soldiers challenge the borders of the Traladarans and hire privateers from the Thalassocracy to sink enemy ships.

Also on the map are Alfeisle, Blackrock, the Vorenth Verge, and a small part of the growing hin empire known as The Ten Shires.

While a large portion of Alfeisle sunk after the tidal wave hit, a good number of the island’s populace survived due to the power of the island's hidden Tree of Life. However, the tree’s protection didn’t save everyone and the tree died soon after the waters receded. What was left is a darker Alfeisle that has gone almost completely savage. Non-elves are unwelcome here and that includes even gnomes and the hin. Rumors abound that lycanthropy runs rampant through the elvish population on the island. It is known that there are shadow elves living among the other elves of Alfeisle.

Blackrock is a den of pirates. Piracy in the Sea of Dread rose sharply after the Devastation War ended and Blackrock became the stronghold of the best of them (or worst of them, depending on your point of view). The hilly island is a wild place where freebooters come to anchor in the shallow harbors protected by Pillager’s Reef. There isn’t a true government here and there is only one village that sits high in the mountains of the center of the island. Blackrock Mount is where old pirates go to retire, although some say it is ruled by a powerful wizard and pirates are not welcome. The truth probably lies somewhere in between.

The Vorenth Verge is another bastion of displaced peoples. Its populace is made up of a hodgepodge of dozens of races including not only humans and demihumans but also humanoids and stranger breeds. Much of the island rose from the depths or was once part of an island controlled by either Thyatis or the Minrothad Guilds. However, since there are very few ruins from the previous age on the island, it next to impossible to determine what was once under the sea and what was part of an old island.

Regardless, all agree that Apertum Isle* is one dangerous place better left to those who choose to live there (usually, because they are not welcome elsewhere). The islands primary community is Vorenthus and is primarily Thyatian in population with a few Traladaran families, as well as orcs, half-orcs, hobgoblins, and half-elves exiled from Alfeisle. On the other side of the island is New Malfton, which doesn’t recognize Vorenthus as the ‘capital town’ of the island. Its populace is a mix of peoples but is primarily human, hin, gnome, and rakasta. Elves and half-elves are welcome in New Malfton, but there is one elvish family who lives in the town. The rest of the island is a divided place. The divisions are mainly geographical.

* Not everyone agrees that Apertum is what the island should be called. And the political name ‘Vorenth Verge’ is relatively new and is used mainly by those not living on the island.

Finally, the map shows the extreme eastern parts of The Ten Shires. Darkshire is what is left of western Thyatis and eastern Karameikos. It is the most untamed shire and most in the hin empire consider it a borderland more than a true shire. Darkshire is where the hin let most non-halflings live in their growing empire, although the handful of island of Isleshire are also places where the hin let humans live in the empire. In Darkshire, there are dwarves and gnomes in the Rugalov Uplands and fanatical elvish adventurers often brave the cursed woods of Old Vyalia to try to revive the land or retrieve lost relics.

Fate of Immortal and Exalted Dragons
Immortal Dragons
Diamond: Lawful Immortal (used to be Thelvyn the Gold, and briefly incarnated by the human Jaggar von Drachenfels)
- Killed by an Alien Immortal

Great One: the first Dragon Immortal, was a member of the extinct "Grey" Dragons
- Killed by an Alien Immortal

Opal: Neutral Immortal
- Immortal essence consumed by an Alien Immortal

Pearl: Chaotic Immortal
- Survived the Devastation War but power was reduced to a 5th-level Initiate
_____________________________________________________________________________________

Diamond and the Great One were both killed by the same Alien Immortal, Clillann. Clillann infiltrated the Dimension of Dragons and used dracomancy to turn a dozen Dragon Guardians against the four dragon rulers.

Opal escaped but the Neutral Immortal Dragon was later defeated and consumed by the Alien Immortal known as Chathasdyd. As a result, The Pseudonatural Wyrm is the current Sun Dragon; it is also considered a renegade Eternal (27th, CE [N]) Immortal of the Sphere of Discord. (This is an increase in its power level since the last time I posted my list of Immortals.)

Pearl also escaped Clillann's invasion but was later reduced in power during a confrontation with the Alien Immortal known as Xraclomsoe the Babbler. Pearl is no longer considered the Moon Dragon. Pearl is in hiding somewhere in the Old Hollow World since Chathasdyd wishes to find and consume Pearl's essence. Pearl is considered to fall under the mysterious Sphere of Cosmos.

No Mystaran dragon has yet risen to claim the vacant positions of Moon Dragon or Star Dragon (and there is also no Great One), although a few have gained Immortality (but are all considered renegades until both of those titles are claimed and a new Great One rises above all). Each time one of these Immortal dragons gets close to rising to the next level of power, Chathasdyd sends dozens of Lesser Fiends and a handful of loyal Initiates to prevent it (this isn't always successful, however).

Chathasdyd's goal seems to be to not let any Mystaran dragon to become more powerful than it. It is not known if The Pseudonatural Wyrm desires to become the next Great One, as The Alien Dragon's motives are maddening.

Exalted Dragons (+5 to rolls)
I'm assuming that all these named dragons are considered Exalted and not true Immortals. Regardless, Jherdar and Kharendaen are all now considered Immortals for The World Unknown. While I'm treating the listed dragons as mortal Exalted, it is possible that Arbendael is still alive at AC 1200 (very likely). Daresha and Marthaen were both killed during Clillann's infiltration of the Dimension of Dragons.

Arbendael: a Gold female, Exalted servant and consort of the Great One, mother of Thelvaenier (Dragonlord of Mystara)
Roll: 9+5=14 (no ascension, natural death)

Daresha: a Gold female, Marthean's mate and foster mother of Therandael (Dragonlord of Mystara)
Roll: 8+5=13 (no ascension, violent death)

Jherdar: a Red male, Speaker for the Reds (Dragonlord of Mystara)
Roll: 12+5=17 (turned into Exalted [ascends to Initiate (3rd) Immortal instead])

Kharendaen: Gold female, mate of Thelvyn, went to the Draconic Cluster with the Immortal Diamond (Dragonlord of Mystara)
Roll: 11+5=17 (turned into Exalted [ascends to Initiate (5th) Immortal instead])

Lhoran the Blue: a Blue male (Dragonlord of Mystara)
Roll (+2): 6+5+2=12 (no ascension, violent death)

Marthaen: a Gold male, Speaker of the Parliament and foster father of Therandael, probably still elder Speaker for the Golds (Dragonlord of Mystara)
Roll: 8+5=13 (no ascension, violent death)
---
Mortal dragons are up next.
