Fantasy worlds without humans?

Post by Angel of the Night » Tue Jul 22, 2014 11:09 pm

I am starting to out on putting together a homebrew campaign system based around Pathfinder and it dawns on me that I do not think I want humans as a player race. What is the point RPing in a fantasy world if players are more inclined to play humans?

Also, are there any published campaign settings that do not have humans as a player race?

Talislanta. Some of the races are more humanlike than others, but technically none of them are human.

Historia Rodentia

Shard

World Tree

Mouse Guard

The Dark Crystal (this rpg is not yet published, but there's plenty of books about the setting, and of course a movie)

The Magic the Gathering setting also includes the world of Lorwyn (later renamed Shadowmoor), which also has no humans. Of significance, Lorwyn is a world made of dreams, so it would be logical to assume that the dreamers are human, and that they invariably apparate in the setting as giants or mermaids or goblins, exaggerating their personalities so they have a more dreamlike reality to them.
