I think this is to get the crunch out in front of eyes that might not have bought the book through DM's Guild...

.... which makes me sort of glad I haven't bought the book through DM's Guild....

Yeah, I think the same. I don't see a need for buying this book yet. A functional artificer is the only thing I need to want to play 5e again. For now, I'll stick to 4e.

Bought it, read it, liked it. I don't run 5e, so I don't care about the crunch. There is a fair amount of new material, or perhaps new details respecting old material, but you have to know the old material pretty well to notice the differences. It is clearly Keith's baby (or Ruty channelling Keith), and presents a more consistent vision without some of the questionable fluff introduced by other authors.

There is more here for players than DMs. It is probably a better player's sourcebook than any of the others including the PGtE. This is in part because it omits a lot of details which players will never care about for starting characters (the PGtE is a bit daunting for new players who just want to roll up a character), but has more detail than the Adventurer's Guide to Eberron (which is just a travel brochure) and is a more accurate picture of the setting than the Eberron Players Guide.

Its got the information a player is likely to need, and only the information a player is likely to need, to start a character that will fit into the setting; at the very least, it gives them enough of a starting point to ask their DM the right questions. So maybe don't buy it for yourself, buy it for your players.
