WotC Era Products

A place where the monk class won't feel like an oddball. Kara-Tur can be discussed in the FR sub-forum. Rokugan, Mahasarpa and other Asian-themed worlds can be discussed here.

WotC Era Products

Post by Big Mac » Fri Aug 31, 2018 7:36 am

Havard made a topic called TSR Era Products, so I thought I would start one to list the products from the WotC Era that can be useful when running an Oriental Adventures style campaign.

This is going to be a little bit different from Havard's topic. Firstly, Wizards of the Coast had two other companies using the Oriental Adventures brandname during the 3rd Edition Era. Secondly, Rokugan was imported in from Legend of the Five Rings and then exported back to Legend of the Five Rings. Thirdly, most of the Oriental Products published for 3rd Edition Dungeons & Dragons were actually dual-stat books that also had stats for 2nd Edition Legend of Five Rings RPG.

D&D 3rd Edition
  • Oriental Adventures
  • Rokugan
D&D 3rd Edition/Lot5R 2nd Edition
  • Magic of Rokugan
  • Creatures of Rokugan
  • Way of the Samurai
  • Way of the Ninja
  • Way of the Shugenja
  • Fortunes & Winds
  • Secrets of the Lion
  • Secrets of the Mantis
  • Secrets of the Phoenix
  • Secrets of the Scorpion
  • Secrets of the Crab
  • Secrets of the Crane
  • Secrets of the Unicorn
  • Secrets of the Dragon
  • Bloodspeakers
  • Secrets of the Shadowlands
  • The Complete Exotic Arms Guide
  • Way of the Open Hand
  • Way of the Daimyo
  • Way of the Thief
  • The Hidden Emperor
D&D 3.5 Edition

D&D 4th Edition

D&D 5th Edition

I'm still looking for things, so I've got blanks here. I think there are going to be some magazine articles about Kara-Tur after the end of the TSR Era. And I'm not sure if WotC published anything other than RPG books for Rokugan/Lot5R.

The Legend of the Five Rings Books page at L5R Wiki might help.

Dragon 318 had two articles for 3.5: "The Ninja" (redone as a 20-level base class) and "Oriental Adventures update."

The "Complete [X]" books (3.5) included several classes and prestige classes suitable for OA:

Complete Adventurer: Ninja (reprinted from Dragon); PrC: Ghost-Faced Killer.
Complete Arcane: Wu Jen; PrC: Enlightened Fist.
Complete Divine: Shugenja; PrC: Sacred Fist, Void Disciple.
Complete Warrior: Samurai; PrC: Bear Warrior, Drunken Master, Kensai, Ronin, Tattoed Monk.
Tim Emrick, Green Ronin Freebooter and Keeper of the Freeport Errata

Thanks Tim. I'll check those out tonight.

I've also found a novel, published by WotC, called The Crane (Legend of the Five Rings: Clan War, Third Scroll), so I'd say that counts as "WotC Rokugan canon" and something I'll want to list (along with any other 3rd Edition Era novels.

Dungeon Magazine ran a couple of adventures; one was called "Honor and Eta."

Thanks Nate.

I'll have to look for a Dungeon Magazine index.

Does anyone remember the other adventure?

(One thing I want to assess, when I've got a list of the non-AEG stuff, is if there are any ties to Kara-Tur or the Mahasarpa campaign settings...or anything else that I've not heard about.)

Dragon 404 is dedicated to oriental stuff, including all the oriental classes as themes and an oriental race (the hengeyokai), but all of it was laveled under Forgotten Realm's Kara-Tur.

That's what I had in mind. I knew we could count on your encyclopedic knowledge. :)

I believe this is exactly the type of thing Big Mac was looking for.
