Is there a Cockroach race?

Postby Azaghal » Sat Jul 31, 2010 9:10 am

Since it's started raining every afternoon/evening here this week I'm seeing the things all over the streets and side walks lately, as the question asks is there a race of roaches and if not lets build one. I mean npc/pc type of race.

There's plenty of refuse in Wildspace settlements for a cockroach race to thrive. It seems like they'd get an AC bonus and the ability to eat a lot of undesirable things. They'd probably have penalties to Charisma and possible Dexterity because of their endoskeleton.

I seem to remember having seen a cockroach npc race, but I'll have to go through my roleplaying archive (which can take quite some time). I think it was an 3rd party d20 book... :?:

Sounds like reasonable things, I was thinking of throwing a Japanese slant on them as well, enter the Samurai Roach!!!

That would be great if you could find something Tauster!

So far only Giant Cockroaches for MtG 8th and 9th Ed.

Maybe the Prestige Race (Oathbound Campaign Setting) "Focus of the Cockroach" from the book "Wrack & Ruin [BAS1011]" (there is a review here).

We also have our very own kukarachans - designed for Mystara! We also had some thoughts about swarming and other things.

You`re right it`s with c`s been a long time since I learned much spanish, though it seems a lot of New Mexican speakers don`t quite speak spanish the way it`s taught.

There is also a race in Dragon Magazine #267 which was updated in the 2005 Dragon Magazine Compendium called the Diopsid that was based off of generic beetles, but looked to me to be an anthropomorphic roach. Yum.

It's a well written race, you may want to check them out.

Sharn: City of Towers for the Eberron setting has a monster called a "roach thrall." They're giant cockroaches that disguise themselves as humans. The same book also features "rancid beetles," a swarm of ordinary-sized cockroaches that animate corpses as if they were zombies.

Between Thri-Kreen, the Vermin Lord (3e MMIII), Tlincalli (scorpionfolk or manscorpions), the Formorians, the races listed above, and I'm sure many others in supplements I'm too tired to think of right now, you could populate a whole world with Insectfolk

Or they could take a slice of Mystara's ancient prehistory (between Cab's work on Hallicinagenia and my own work on Y'ruth), and create an Epoch of Insects. :D

That would be truly scary. Just think how a party of time travelling PC would feel if they stumbled upon that... :o

Ant-men, roach-men - the possibilities are endless! This would be worse than turning up in the time of plants, I think.

That is awesome. I hope you make good use of scorpionfolk. They've become my favorite race recently.

By the way, I grew up in New York City and there is a flat out epidemic of bedbugs recently. If you want every NY'er to crawl in their own skin, we need to flesh out a race of those horrors!

Bedbugs? Now that could stir some ideas. I lived in Philadelphia from 72-74 but I have virtually now memories of it, which when you consider I was 3-5 makes sense. I`ll look at scorpionfolk, though I`m predjudice since my wife and stepdaughter are both scorpios. :D
