I haven't tried the above programs, but I use Hexographer (http://www.inkwellideas.com/roleplaying ... ndex.shtml)
This one is free, or US$22.95 for the full version.

I've only used the free one but will buy it one day.. and it works well for non-artistic people like myself :)

You can make accurate TSR style maps with that, especially if you use the font Myztara (Found that ages ago somewhere on a fan page, link unknown sorry..)

Looks nice, but I can't help but wonder if they've borrowed some things from my project without permission. Specifically, the palette. They could at least have asked.

In my last post many years ago I wrote:

I forgot about this, but Joe Wetzel who owns Hexographer actually refunded my purchase when I bought a license to try it out, and then e-mailed me. It turns out that he did try to contact me, but didn't get through to me.

In any case, I definitely recommend Hexographer — or indeed Worldographer, as its second version is now called.

Back to the topic... Does anyone know what happened to Isomage's GIMP tools? I was trying to send a link to share them with someone but I can't seem to find an active one anywhere.

Not an answer, but it seems I'm not the only one looking for this:

I still have it working for me on my version of Gimp. When I get home in a few hours I can look for it.

Hello Thorf,

I've just e-mailed you Isomage's GIMP brushes, as I use them regularly. Hopefully that's what you're after!

Thorf,

I have the install for Hexgimp: here

There are installation instructions in the readme file. I also have some additional hexes I made (a lot derived from you, some derived from 1980's CRPGs or other icons I saw).

I've found the following is needed for 2.8.18
When you want to generate a map, select hex blank for drawing.
Reset the size of the brush (36.00).
Then go to file, New Hex Map.

If the hex sizes are off (I usually generate a small test file to see if it's displaying properly), redo the steps above and make sure the brush is still select to the blank hex one.

When you use the brushes (other than hex blank) reselect the size of the brush (38.00). Otherwise, the brush does not paint properly.

That's all I can think of for using the program. If folks have questions or issues let me know.
(on my list of todo's is to recode the script for the latest version of GIMP)
