Technical Problems (please report them here)

Post by Hugin » Fri Jul 04, 2008 4:20 pm

Moderator edit: Let's make use of this thread for reports of any and all technical problems regarding the project.

Not to alarm you too much Thorf, but all your maps are gone! :o I can't connect with your website either. I hope this is easily fixable. :(

Re: Temporary Outage

I moved this to a new thread so that it can disappear down to the bottom of the board once it's over.

Actually this is a good sign rather than a bad one. ;) I'm in the midst of changing servers, and the redirection of my domain came through overnight (for me, at any rate). When I woke up this morning, my site was inaccessible. When I checked just now, the main page is loading again properly. But it might take a couple of days to get the mystara.thorf.co.uk subdomain set up properly. So my maps will be inaccessible for a while, but please be patient - when they come back, my site will have far more space and bandwidth, and I'll be able to upgrade a lot of things. :D

Sorry I didn't let you all know about this earlier, but it was supposed to happen two weeks ago and now it suddenly comes without warning.

The DNS update will take a few days to spread around the Internet, so don't be surprised if you encounter some strangeness with my site and the maps linked to it over the next few days.

Personally I've been having some really strange experiences, getting to the new site one minute and the old one the next. :? It's all a bit confusing.

Well, that's a bit of a relief. At least you are aware of it all. Hopefully you're able to have everything sorted out soon.

It looks like everything is working properly now on the new server. Visibly there shouldn't be much difference at all, but you will start to see the benefits very soon.

First, the Mystara Database has already been created in its new home and is growing steadily. It will be a wee while yet until it has a user interface and is ready for users and editors, but it's well under way now.

Second, I intend to use my new space and bandwidth to upload PDFs of my updated maps. If there is demand, I can release PDFs of replica maps too. I'm hoping to revamp my web page at some point too.

Anyway, there may still be some servers that haven't picked up on the changes yet, so don't be surprised if there is still some weirdness over the next few days. It ought to be over very soon.

Good news! It will be nice to be able to start feeding that puppy some kibble-info-n-bits.

Can't get the Wrath of the Immortals maps to display "The requested URL was not found on this server. "

I posted them right before I went to bed, and it seems I forgot to change the scale in the URL. Kinda ironic after writing about how non-standard and strange the scale is!

Anyway, fixed now. Thanks for letting me know! :geek:

The words 'New Posts' or 'No New Posts' appears above or to the right of the two folder names. Seems this oddity only effects this area of the forums. Also not sure if its just me or everyone see it.

It seems like this is a side-effect of Ashtagon renaming the forums for me yesterday (for which thanks, by the way!). Ideally it would be nice to see the project icon in that place, of course.

Just scroll down a bit in the Foreword and Overview thread - it's been there since I announced the project. :D

It seems my site is not responding right now. I'm looking into it. In the meantime all of my maps are still available at the Vaults, but the maps here (and all other images in my posts here) are temporarily offline. :?

Notice: mystara.thorf.co.uk is down temporarily while I move servers (again). I hope to get it back up soon. In the meantime, the images in the mapping forum will be broken. If you need any maps you can find them all at pandius.com.

The server move this time is an upgrade, but we'll have to wait and see what the upgrade brings. I'm not really sure what I'm going to do with the new stuff myself. :D

Update: I've set up my Mystara sub-domain again and I'm now in the process of uploading the files. Please let me know if you have any problems accessing my maps a few hours after the time of this post (by which time all the files should have finished uploading - at 275 MB, it takes quite a while ;) ).

It seems my site is inaccessible at present. Did anyone notice when the problem started? I hadn't checked for a while, and only noticed when I tried to download e-mail just now, for the first time after my holiday. I can access the site control panel, so I suspect it may be a domain issue.

In any case, I will get it sorted out, but it will probably be offline until at least Monday, and possibly until later in the week. :(

It was okay at the beginning of December when I downloaded many of your maps.
I checked in a couple of times during December to look up details of fonts - I think the week before Christmas was the last time.

It was likewise working at the end of December when I was looking around for Thorf's Illustrator source files.
I have resumed my Flanaess cartography project. Visit my deviantArt gallery to visit my collection of Geryhawk maps. http://admundfortgeographer.deviantart.com/

Thanks guys. It seems to be back now - I guess it was just a temporary outage.
