[Outer World] City Maps (Specularum)

I had some to play around on Friday... I'm experimenting with creating my own mapping styles for projects (specifically Mystara) and wanted to share a current test bed project.

And at a much closer view (i.e. higher resolution).

I'll be posting a more cleaned up version of this map as it goes and finish it up. I'm going to come up with a better 'building' layer.

Anyways, thoughts, feedback, criteria, and suggestions are welcome.

And if you want the WiP version...

Man you are good! :)

City maps have always been tricky for me, though I did pick up some tricks from Bruce Heard's Alphatia series on his blog.

Love the style you have developed here though. :)

Hi -

Some time back Agathokles and I did some work on a Soecularum "Gazetteer" which included mapping the city districts including the placement of various locales from canon and fanon.
These maps are in the Vaults of Pandius:
Hill District
Bricktop District
North End District
Merchant District
Old Quarter
The Nest
South End District
Church District
Stronghold District
Foreign Quarter

I also started work on a "master map" joining the deistrict maps together

More recently I've been revising these maps for use in what one day might be a "special" issue of Threshold .

regards,

IF you don't mind me using that as a base... I think we can have a pretty good start a really cool map of Specularum.

I like your style of City Maps too Allan!
What software are you using to create these? :)

So... if Allan and company don't mind... I can come with a pretty decent version, fairly quickly...

Besides some 'variations' to add to colors and small edits...

Argentmantle -

Nice looking map..
I don't have a problem with you producing another style of Specularum map. the only thing I'd appreciate is a credit for creating the detailed level block layouts (which don't appear on the original GAZ1 map). Many of the locations were accumulated by Agathokles (with a little input fro me) from canon and fanon works.

My most recent version of the "master map" post-dating the one I already mentioned can be found here

What I'd really like to try and tackle some day are some 3D visualisations of verious locales...

Nice work folks! I wish I were that handy with graphics!

It's all pencil and paper for me.

So, here is where I'm at so far... I still need to develop a mask for 'special' buildings...

And here is the image zoomed in.

I don't do city maps as such, but I do have a new regional map almost done of the area around Threshold. Actually, it centers around Highforge for my current campaign. It is based on these two maps on The Vaults. I'll share it once it's finished.

Not sure if you were asking the question of Argentmantle or me...
but in my case I'm using Serif's DrawPlus X8 ( a powerful yet relatively cheap graphics program) to create my maps.

I use Photoshop for most of my work. Sometimes, I'll sneak in Illustrator.
