Don't know if these have been mentioned before, but I was just looking at the Gaz 10 map again and noticed 2 migrational maps - one large scale and one centered on the KW. I'd love to see a Thorfized version of these 2 maps.

Humanoid Known World Map

In this thread Mike, Hugin, myself, and others expressed interest in seeing a map of the known world with borders as the humanoids might draw them....

What I'd like to see is a map of the Alphatian continent without the current kingdom borders - so I can have a canvas for my alternate timeline work. :twisted:

Very true - I'd forgotten to mention that. In fact, a case could be made to make "blank" versions of everything that's been done.

How "blank"?

With borders, towns and cities removed?

What about terrain features, like forests, rivers etc?

For me, blank would be without borders and settlements. Other terrain features could stay, though.

We can do that now for anything that Thorf has published a pdf on. I do it all the time in fact. The pdf layers are immortal sent!

Ack. I found Thorf's 24 mile per hex map of Alphatia, but he only uploaded it as a png.

If you can get a pdf from him you can export it without the border and settlement layers, and it will give you exactly what you're looking for.

It's a bit big for me to try and copy it in a couple of days, sorry. :(

This will certainly do for a start. Over the longer term, I'd want to get down to the 24-mile hex version.

Hi Thorf, I've noticed that the Alphatian Empire in not present on your Known World map here:

But, if a look at this:

Alphatia is a real location not searchable on the previous map (it's a isle set nowhere...) ;(
In thsi map:

I see that Alphatia is on the right of Thyatis, on the other side of the Sea of Dawn but, returning at the map http://mystara.thorf.co.uk/replica/_08_ ... ries-8.png
in the Western Sea of Daw, right of Thyatis, there's nothing! :shock:

Three points:

* The first map you link to is in 8-mile scale. The others are in 24 or 72-mile scale, so they cover a much larger area. On the scale of the first map, Alphatia is simply too far.
* No 8-mile map of Alphatia or the Isle of dawn was ever officially published, which is why the 8-mile map doesn't stretch that far.
* There's the Isle of Dawn between Thyatis and Alphatia.

Thanks, Ashtagon, but it's possibile to locate exactly Alphatia in the Known World, even if as fan-supposition? There's anyone sufficiently experienced that can wrtie a sketch of map so to have a general idea?

The third map you linked (http://mystara.thorf.co.uk/replica/_72_ ... tis-72.png) shows exactly where Alphatia is in relation to the Known World. It's due east about 2000 miles, and four times the area of the entire Known World area.

If one were to relocate Alphatia in the Known World, I think the best location would be to place it atop the Great Plateau to the west of Glantri (replacing all the terrain there, of course). You'd have to resize the nation, obviously, to make it fit, but it would be a good geographic location for it for several reasons:

1) The historic relationship between Glantri and Alphatia would come into play more directly, as the Alphatians and Flaemish are literally right next door to one another;
2) It sandwiches the Known World nations between Alphatia and Thyatis, and adds another dynamic to the internecine conflict between the two empires.

If I get a chance later, I'll try and make an attempt at a quick map of what I have in mind.

Good idea. I always alphatia a bit too big - maybe due the Atlantean 'lost continent' basis.
