I like the machine meets fantasy as illustrated here. I have often thought about using Elder Scrolls Dwarven Vaults as a representation for Blackmoor Technology.

What do you think? :)

I thought the same thing. The Dwemer (dwarves) had a magic-based technology that modern people in that universe can barely begin to understand. A few people can understand the simplest Dwemer devices to create, say, more powerful crossbows, but a lot of what the Dwemer knew is still far beyond them. No one really knows how their constructs worked (they involved cogs, gears, dynamos, boilers, and soul gems but it's still something modern artificers can't replicate). In Skyrim, there's a sort of vast, complex orrery that can be used to imprint the information from a mind-shattering artifact into what's essentially a sort of magical steampunk hard drive.

I thought it might be a good model for how Blackmoor tech appears to people in present day Mystara. I like that it allows for an incredibly sophisticated tech without seeming like a copy of the tech from our 20th-21th century Earth.
