Beastman Chanter

I notice this small reference in the Hollow World Players Guide. Beastman Chanters are storytellers who are lacking in fighting ability. It seems logical that these would be NPCs, but how about a PC Class? Or at least a monster?

Could Beastman Chanters have unique abilities linked to battle cries and the like?

Sounds like a race-specific bard-ish class, if I ever heard one

Eberron does something similar with goblinoid (Dhakaani) dirgesingers. I really like the idea and it can definitely be lifted and modified to fit in Mystara. Beastman tribes would make perfect sense for this kind of thing. In that case, the Dhakaani are seen as way more civilized (being the remnants of an ancient culture that once ruled the world).

In the case of Beastmen, I'm envisioning something a little more primal. I like the idea of playing around with abilities from both Bard and Barbarian. Since Chanters are supposed to lack in fighting abilities, perhaps they have the power to impart Barbarian type abilities (ie Rage, etc) on their companions?

I'm not familiar with diresigners, but they sound interesting. I agree that something more primal makes sense. Instigating some kind of rage among their allies sounds great. Maybe they can provide other emotions too, like cause fear, or maybe healing allies?

It could be easily done in BECMI using similar rules as the shamans and witch doctors, but with a different spell selection, using mostly spells from the druid list, plus appropriate ones from other sources (e.g., charme, cause fear, suggestion).
