Warriors of the Eternal Sun maps

Post by agathokles » Sun Apr 21, 2019 10:22 pm

I'm opening this thread for the re-design of the maps for Warriors of the Eternal Sun.

I've posted here about the process and tools I'm going to use for the dungeon maps.
You can see the first map, the castle dungeons, here.

For the overland maps, I'm converting the original maps to hexmaps.
You can see the first draft of the Valley map here.

Of course, given the amount of maps to convert (see here for the whole set), some help would be useful (and would allow me to concentrate on the revision of the text, which is also massive.

Thanks!

Here are the Beastman caves, upper tier

Note that I'm cutting the Gateway Passage at the first secret door, since the PCs need some external help to pass through.

Excellent. Played that through over 20 years ago. Always wanted to revisit it.

Very clever how you are taking maps that are squiggels and turning them into something easier to use.

(I wonder if there are any maps hidden in Pirates of Realmspace.)

Here are the Catacombs of Doom. I'm not fully satisfied with this version. We'll see how I can improve.

Thanks. Actually, the main goal was to have a tool to easily draw dungeon maps without being slowed down by mouse-based GUIs. This way, I'm literally writing the map rather than drawing it.

Of course, it is certain that the same map information is encoded in WotES (or Pirates of the Realmspace, etc.) code or (more likely) resources, but it would take a lot of effort to reverse engineer the data formats and then output the maps.

Room #3 is missing its secret door entrance and Room #13 doesn't connect to the door that leads to it.

You're welcome. I'd have done it earlier, but I discovered playscii only this week, and other types of tools are too slow to work with.

Thanks. We might indeed use such a map, although the primary one will be hex based for ease of reference (hex numbering helps a lot when having to reference many locations.

I am interested in this game due the posts here.
Where can I acquire (buy complete or download )it? Legally of course
What extra programms, modulators or whachamacallit do I need (and where to acquire these?
What text material is available and where?
Who can help me...I am totally unknown in these things, and my PC nerd who keeps my PC alive and kicking dislikes doing this, it often takes too much time and such, and simply refuses to do so(and I can't force him for he does all free of charge now).
So I also ask is how to implement these things, as I know how to work in windows paint, and word and somewhat excell, and some websurfing, this is waaaaay beyond the scope of my abilities

The easiest way to play WotES is: #1. Open a browser and go to ssega.com. #2. Make sure you are looking at the sega games and click the letter D, then scroll down til you see the page numbers 1-5 and click #4. Scroll down again on that page and look in the bottom left, the 2nd game on the bottom row is WotES. Click the picture or the name and then select play game. Default controls are A-S-D-Enter-Space keys. Using this site you'll be able to save files to you computer no matter where you are in the game. (Normally you can only save above ground.)
If you do a browser search for the Warriors of the Eternal Sun Hintbook (in pdf form), that should be all you need to play).

http://www.opusgames.com/games/wotes/wotes.html

That site belongs to one of the folks who made the game and is a great resource w/ very helpful maps.
