Rakasta & Lupin

Post by tenderdove » Wed Jan 21, 2009 3:17 am

I have been trying to find any and all info on these two races and have found virtually next to nothing. If there is anyone out there that might be able to further enlighten me to the inns and outs of those races, ESPECIALLY Rakasts, I'd appreciate it

The Red Steel boxed set has the two races as PC's (AD&D 2nd edition). There are also 2 dragon magazine articles but I can not remember the issue numbers offhand.

The Rakasta are in Dragon 247 and the Lupin are in Dragon 237.

The Rakasta are also detailed in the Thunder Rift module "Rage of the Rakasta".

The Voyage of the Princess Ark series of articles include visits to Rakasta and Lupin nations.
I can't remember if they include any extra stats, but they do give colour to the two races.

How far back are you going?

If memory serves, both are creations of Tom Moldvay. Rakasta first appeared in module X1: The Isle of Dread, and I think that Lupins first came in module X2: Castle Amber.

thank you for the quick replies :)

i haven't been in D&D for very long (10 years off and on, second eddition). As such, i play Rakastas a lot. i was just trying to find out more about them. had a friend ask me about them and i couldn't tell them very much, other than what i got out of the Mystara Monster Compendium Appendix.

mostly i'm looking for lore, habitat, society, ecology, etc.

how can i find the articles from the Dragon list?

What is red steel?

Hello

You can download the books here in the piazza : viewtopic.php?f=26&t=390
Download the pdf version (follow the links that you will find in agathokles's message).

Rakastas and Lupins live in the Bellayne and Renardy Kingdoms.

You can also browse the : Board Index\Campaign Worlds\Mystara\Savage Coast topics.

If you are ever looking for monsters, look at Echohawk's Complete D&D Monster Index. Echohawk is a guy who is trying to collect every monster from every edition of D&D. So in the unlikely event that he hasn't got one you know about, let him know and he will add it to his next version.

I'm not sure if either of these two monsters got converted to later editions of D&D (and don't have time to look at the moment) but if they did, they might be in products that give some details that earlier products didn't have.

Red Steel is a special metal that has some properties that makes it very much like a magical item. If you download the Savage Coast stuff that was mentioned before, you can read all about it.

If your looking for Mystara specific info try the articles under the Lupin & Rakasta entry at http://www.pandius.com/races.html
What is red steel?
A) The name of a subsetting, usually assotiated with Mystara, which is also known as "Savage Coast"
B) The name of a semi-magical metal found there
