How much have tortles been used outside of Mystara?

It seems to me that if any particular race is strongly associated with only one campaign setting, you are less likely to see it supported in every edition of D&D and you are also less likely to see miniatures.

Mind you, tortles look slightly like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, so perhaps there are some non-D&D minis of turtles that can be hacked to turn them into turtles.

Is there any sign that WotC are getting official tortle miniatures made?

You'd think so, but as I mentioned in the article above Tortles have been used in multiple D&D 5E products as well as the Critical Role series. It is possible that Joe Manganiello's Tortle character, Krull, will appear not only in Descent into Avernus, but also future books, video games, podcasts or wherever Manganiello wants to take him.

But outside of the 5E material, Tortles are exclusively a Mystara/Red Steel race.

I believe I have seen some Tortle or Turtle-Man miniatures, but I am not sure I have seen any official ones. I'm still waiting for my Tomb of Annhiliation Board Game to arrive, so not sure if any Tortle minis may have been included in that one.

I could see WotC or one of its partners makining minis for Arkhan the Cruel (Dragonborn), Krull the Tortle and maybe some of Manganiello's other characters too, depending on who owns the rights to the characters. If they are owned by Manganiello, then it depends on whether he is willing to lisence them out of course.

There are already minis of Arkhan the Cruel available for purchase. I'm not sure what the relationship between the vendor (Gale Force 9) and Wizards of the Coast is; presumably they are licensing the usage of the D&D brand name at least (as it appears on the packaging).

Gale Force 9 is officially licensed to produce D&D materials.

I'm quite okay with materials from Mystara leaking out into the 'core' D&D. It helps shine light on Mystara and its associated realms.

Tortles and turtlemen are becoming more popular, I purchased the turtleman miniature from this kickstarter.

BTW also Wizkid produced tortle miniatures, they are apparently no more on their store but available on amazon.com see here: https://www.amazon.com/Dungeons-Nolzur% ... way&sr=8-1 and amazon.co.uk https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dungeons-Drago ... g=UTF8&me= and I bought them myself from amazon.it.

One of the topics that came up a while back was that Bruce Heard had pitched a tortle article similar to the ones that lupins got in Dragon #237 and rakasta in issue #247. Since he's said the file is lost, I'm wondering if we could come up with a fan supplement to have tortle sub-species, using a similar format to those two articles. It seems to me that swimming ability, natural AC, and bite/claw attacks would be easy to vary by group, possibly breaking it down into sea tortles, tortles, tortoisles, and snappers? For bloodlines, dragon turtle is an obvious one, but nothing else jumps out at me.

Good idea!
I started a separate thread about that here.

Just a heads up that the guys who crowdfunded a turtle/tortle miniature are back with another one, and this includes a cattus which can work as a rakasta.
