N4: Treasure Hunt - Experiences?

Postby Angel Tarragon » Mon Aug 15, 2016 12:24 pm

I am curious to know who here has played in or run this module? I read the blurb over on Wayne's Books and saw that the characters start off at 0th level and have to work their way up to 1st level. What was that like as player, how well did it work?

This module is now on my radar, but really curious as to experiences with it.

Never played it, but I have it somewhere. I only got it because it is Aaron Allston (I think).

Is N4 Treasure Hunt a generic adventure? (Or is it set in Greyhawk or Mystara?)

Not sure, which is why I ask here in the 1E forum since it is a 1E module.

I believe it was originally written to be generic, but it was later retconned into the Forgotten Realms when the Korinn Archipelago later appeared in the accessory FR2 Moonshae.

N4 was published in 1986, one year before the Forgotten Realms was launched.

The guys at the Roll for Initiative podcast talked about N4 a while back: http://rfipodcast.com/show/2013/03/13/v ... sure-hunt/ ; if you want to skip the mailbag and banter, jump a we bit less than an hour through (59:25 or so)

Not played but read. It was indeed generic but later reconnected to the Realms as Havard said. Its most original point is indeed the fact that PCs start at level 0 and have to choose a class depending on their actions and abilities. It has also a nice story about a fallen kingdom which could also be developed more if the Dm modifies the end..
More or less the purpose of the module is to escape from the island so the title is quite misleading..

It is a nice module, and the 0th level rules are interesting and I have used them in other games as well (IMO they are much better than the similar rules in Greyhawk Adventures.)
