Marco Dalmonte books, English translations, in black & white

Weird red metals, dominions, immortals, hollow planets, invisible moons, and a lot of glorified magic zeppelins. It's all here.

Marco Dalmonte books, English translations, in black & white

Postby karameikos » Mon Jul 17, 2017 6:28 pm

I would like to print a copy, for personal gaming use, of the English translations of the various Marco Dalmonte books (Codex Immortalis I & II, Armoury Of Mystara, Tome Of Magic Of Mystara I & II & III). I think the English PDFs available via the Vaults Of Pandius are beautiful, but they all have a dark shade background that makes it difficult to read the text when printed on a black and white printer. Does anyone know whether it would be possible to produce a set of the same PDFs with plain black text on plain white background?

Omnibius or Gary might be people to contact about this...

What's Gary's handle here on The Piazza again? :)

Look at your printer settings. IIRC, color printers can be set to do B&W only print jobs. Another thing to check is if you can turn off printing the background in the pdf software. I've never done that but it may be possible. Let us know if you figure it out.

My printer is a B&W laser printer. Unfortunately, the dark backgrounds make it very difficult to read the text without a great deal of scrutiny.

Tried turning off backgrounds, but no software that I have allows for that.

Also tried opening the PDFs in OpenOffice Draw, but the text was thrown into disarray so I gave up on that try.

You need Ghostscript. The following command line will remove the images without damaging the formatting:
Code: Select all
gs -o noimages.pdf -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -dFILTERIMAGE input.pdf

I'm not looking to remove images. I'm looking to remove the shaded color at the rear of every page.

The background should be an image too.

I seem to have misplaced the source files during a recent house move and pc upgrade. You should, however, be able to copy and paste the text into a new document - as I didn't lock the text. If I ever find the DVD that I backed up the source files on I'll rerelease a more printer friendly variant.
