TSR Artist Jim Holloway has passed

Post by shesheyan »

As reported by his family on his FB page Jim Holloway passed away. Most of you will remember him for his cover art of B4 The Lost City. He is also credited for work on Top Secret, BattleTech, Car Wars, Paranoia, Chill and Dragon magazines. His art often had a humorous twist. Mr Holloway was a self taught artist.

He also drew a lot of the interior art of Star Frontiers, which is sadly uncredited. My favourite below.

Oh, no. This is sad news. I've always really enjoyed Holloway's work, even when it sometimes seemed sillier than the subject material warranted.

I think his work for the Paranoia game was one of the best fits for his particular art style, and his art likewise complemented the subject material in a way that I feel is endemic to the game.

Rest in peace, Mr. Holloway.

Quote : "Michael O'Brien : Chaosium mourns the passing of renowned RPG artist James Holloway. In amongst the memorable work he did for Dungeons & Dragons, Dragon Magazine, Paranoia, and many other titles, was his beautiful cover art for Savage Mountains, a supplement for Chaosium's King Arthur Pendragon RPG. Jim Holloway's art helped spark gamers' imaginations for decades, and he leaves a lasting legacy. Our condolences go to his family and friends—Chaosium Inc."

WOW! I had never seen this one:

Ooof this one really hurts. His art has the same effect on my memory of my youth that certain scents or songs do. Any time I’d see it, it would give me a nostalgic longing for simpler times. RIP

Holloway did a lot of commissions for players who loved his art. Here is one I like a lot!
