Great work as always! Thanks for keeping the Vaults so comprehensive.

Just a thought - on the HTML versions of articles from Threshold Magazine, would it be good to include a link of the form "originally appeared in Threshold Magazine issue #1", where the link points to the PDF of the issue on The Vaults? That way visitors could also refer to the original article, see it's accompanying illustrations, etc.

regards,
hey Allan

I've done a small update of the Vaults this morning and made those changes. Good idea.

I know Pandius started in June 1996 and by 2000 it was already officially recognized as the goto site for Mystara.
hey Dave

Thanks to my old emails and my savings of the old MML digests I can recreate the story.

I was first approached by Jim Butler on 2 November 1999, Bruce had put him on to me. At that time, for interests sake, the idea was that pages would be hosted by Wizards and material would be sent there. Of course, this was very early days, and that changed very quickly. By 1 December 1999 it was no longer a site hosted by Wizards and I had gotten the Official Homepage Requirements. After discussions on the requirements I agreed and Jim made the announcement on the Mystara Mailing List on 14 December 1999.

Thanks Shawn, I am up to 1996/1997 on the Let's Read Mystara thread, so when I get to 1999 I will post those details.

It's worth noting that VoP has now more than 10,000 files (almost 8,000 html pages, more than 2,200 images, 366 PDF documents), for a total of 3GB of data!

I have now incorporated this information into my Mystara Community History thread.

Dave, there might be some other tidbits of interest for your project there too. :)

Wow! That is pretty impressive.

Actually, that works out to about 1.5 files per day since June 1996! :ugeek:

Well done Shawn!

I was just commenting to my friend earlier today as he rolled up his elf character that the Vaults of Pandius is THE place to go for information on Mystara. I am very grateful this site exists, as it is a treasure trove of ideas and information on our favorite D&D campaign world.

I think no other Rpg campaign setting has so much fanon material, at least none I'm aware of.
This is mostly due to the presence of the Vaults, imo, and the fact that Shawn updated it regularly for years.
We will never thank him enough for that!

Obviously The Piazza too deserve much credit for preserving the mystaran community :)

I think Mystara between fanon and canon may have more material than the Forgotten Realms. Obviously the FR have a lot more published books, but a lot less fan developments (of which I am aware). For example, the Mystara community developed (at least a bit) all the undeveloped lands, such as Davania and Skothar, while this did not happen (Afaik) in the Realms..

Indeed! Since the fading of the MML and the gradual shut-down of the MML, the Piazza has been a wonderful home for our community and it seems like this is still the main channel for the creative work done. Alot of thanks to Ashtagon for setting this place up and to everyone else for contributing. I also think the dynamic between the Piazza and Pandius works well to encourage further creativity.

I don't know much about how fandom works for the other settings, but it is worth noting how much published material actually exists for Mystara. Between modules, gazetteers and other products the page count for our setting is among the top supported settings of the TSR era. Of course, the Forgotten Realms has had almost 20 years of support after Mystara was shut down, so it would be hard to beat that setting.

But you have a good point about Mystara lending itself well to fan expansion due to the unmapped regions and continents.

Without Pandius and the Piazza Mystara would have suffered a slow and cuel demise.
So Shawn is to me one of the Guardians of Mystara.

Update 26 December 2015

I have maintained currency with things directly sent or pointed out to me: files from the Mystara 3E Conversion Project, Mystara 4E Conversion Project, Mystara, Mystara Reborn, BECMI and Hollow World Facebook groups; the Mystara Mailing List; and the following rooms on The Piazza: Classic D&D, Thorf's Project main room, Hollow Word, Savage Coast, Geographical Mapping on Thorf's Project, and Thunder Rift. For The Piazza: main Mystara room I am now instigating a two-to-four-week waiting policy and I am current up until the end of November 2015.

Nice work Shawn
Thanx for adding all the corresponding text with it ;)
1 remark though.
The 1 mile map of Alfheim cannot be viewed other than small within the text (if you click it, ; "There was a problem with showing this page")
So you know it.
For those that suffer the same prooblem and without patience, it can also be viewed and downloaded (green arrow on the right) on my Deviantart page

Robin, does it at least got to the PNG file, or can you not even see that?

I've let it be investigated and apparently it has something to do with memory
When I close all other windows and leave only Pandius open, viewing is no problem. ;)
When I have 1 other thing active I get a white screen , but that still can be used to download the art as unaffected
wqhen more open/active I get; "There was a problem with showing this page" :o

so it is not a problem on your side but the map is so heavy on pc's that they don't pull it when something else is running. :(
my work seems to kick pc's more than often.

my advice for other suffering the samel close all, then open pandius and download :ugeek:
