N4 Treasure Hunt

Weird red metals, dominions, immortals, hollow planets, invisible moons, and a lot of glorified magic zeppelins. It's all here.

N4 Treasure Hunt

Post by Havard » Tue Oct 14, 2008 3:39 pm

Does anyone know anything about this module?

Aaron Allston's website says the following:
Treasure Hunt

* (Game Release #16.)
* Adventure for the AD&D game.
* Novices shipwrecked on a hostile island must survive the elements, warring humanoids, and weird monsters; for 0-level characters.
* Published 1986 by TSR Inc.
* (Cover by Jeff Easley.)
* "This is a goodie: well-crafted... and truly creative. Well worth a look even if you don't normally buy AD&D adventures; you won't be disappointed." — White Dwarf, September 1987. "This AD&D module is a masterpiece of design, staging and presentation." — Dragon, July 1991.
Although written for AD&D, could this be suitable for Mystara, say set somewhere in the Sea of Dread? It is written by Aaron Allston afterall... 8-)

Treasure Hunt is, tenatively, set in the Moonshea islands, particularly the chain of tiny islands in its very north-eastern edge. Thus, it should probably be set in a temperate/cold climate, not a tropical one.

Could it be possible to place it on the Yannivey Chain?

The warring humanoid tribes could be simply gangs of humanoids from Limn who banded together after being exiled to the islands due to their crimes on mainland Alphatia.

For those of you who know the module: do you see/know of any feature not suitable for such a setting?

I think it is quite easy to adapt in any island area in Mystara.

I do pretty much agree. The various chains islands scattered around Mystara (or HW) pretty much allow you to plant any island adventure.

When I read night_druid's response, this was my first thought as well. I like your idea of connecting it to humanoids from Limn. I could also see a few other races I might want to throw into the Yannivey Islands like the 3E Darfellans (Killer Whale-Men), Were-Seals etc although they might be too powerful given the levels of the adventure.

Since it was written by Allston it makes even more sense to place it within the region covered by DotE. It should be quite appropriate. I think I will try to hunt down this one 8-)

I have N4, but it's been years since I read it in-depth to remember much. However, I agree that it is worth searching out & it would adapt well to Mystara, no matter the particular climates described or desired. :mrgreen:
