Mystaran Almanacs - Updated Versions

Hi,

I have cleaned up the Mystaran Almanac AC1014 for modern use, link here. Feel free to download it and let me know what you think.

This is based off of the original files on Pandius here. Pandius also has an html web version here.

What
So basically what I've done is consolidated the multiple files into 1 pdf. This is now cleanly bookmarked, page numbered, added a linked TOC, edited, and some typos corrected.
This one was originally done in 1997 when file sizes were an issue so the team then had to split them into multiple files and zip them. My pdf is 1.33 MB.

Why
I've done this as I've always wanted these in 1 pdf file per year. Finally got around to this one today, only took one afternoon.
My plan is to do this to all of the Almanacs eventually, and no I will not be updating the maps.. at this point.

How
I don't have Acrobat Pro so did this the hard way, using Word 2010 and the original Word 6 files.
Title font is in Myztara, with the text in Garamond (size 12 for the general text; 14 for Lvl 3, 16 for Lvl 2, 18 for Lvl 1 bookmarks) and double columns, closer to the original PWA's.
I did this one first as it was the smallest and has no artwork involved. I had to re-do some of the tables and fix some of the spanish characters from the original file.

It could do with some colour, background pics, and a watermark, but it will do for me for using in a future campaign.

I will not be updating the maps.. at this point.
(Yes I'm quoting myself).. and no I also won't be asking Thorf to update them either if anyone was thinking that.. he has enough on his plate.

There are no maps in AC1014, but there are in future editions.

EDIT - This is a reminder to myself to use the already existing updated map of the Hinterlands for AC1017 by John Calvin.

Very nice!

It is cool having the thing in a single book now.

This is a good reason for a reread.

One thing I really would like is to have a nice color cover for it. Anyone up for the job?

Thanks all. It feels good to finally be able to contribute to this community, even if I'm only re-arranging other peoples actual work.

At the end of it, I may even put AC1014 to AC1019 into 1 omnibus file as well. That way it would be fully searchable and indexed.

There doesn't appear to be any covers made until AC1018 and AC1019.
Is Geoff Gander still around? He is credited as the Product Manager for at least these 2 years. He may still have a copy of the template they used at the time, if so then I could use it for every year.

Indeed we could put a cover in it as we are doing for Threshold... it would not be so hard to do.
At the moment I'm a bit busy with Threshold 11, but I could do it eventually if no one is able to do it before me...

A few hours struggling with Windows Paint cut&Paste routines I came up with this.
Would these do? :o

This looks really awesome! A very nice and professional update to this Almanac, indeed!

The fantastic cover by Robin would make this perfect.

Thanx Irondrake.
Though not really an answer on my question, I hope they are good enough.
The raw image can be easily adapted to later issues with art and text.

If the 1014 AC version is used, do not forget to mention the artist; Ed Cox

Oh, I would say there is no need for further tweaking. I think you did a find job with the mock-up you did.

Thanx.. :D
Sorry  if I sound somewhat needy, but I am always a "bit" insecure in what I do create(due RL), and always need reflection on this, :? in order to feel content or even pride. or to improve it

Didn't know about them.. as above it is just a re-formatting, with some typo's fixed, into 1 file. I don't generally delete anything but will make an exception for the double-up errors you have found. I will take a look at this later on.

Regarding those entries; I was the primary editor for the relevant section of that year's almanac (Thyatis and related regions, or whatever it was we'd decided on at the time). I had made some edits to the dates of the entries that had been submitted, in order to better fit them into the larger timeline and not "overstuff" certain areas that already had a lot of events. I also made a few changes to condense the entries by removing what felt, to me, to be some unnecessary editorials by the author, without otherwise altering the events themselves. What apparently happened is that the edited entries and the original entries both slipped into the final text and were never caught (at least not before publication).

As to which is which, without taking a closer look or otherwise delving into an old hard drive I have around here somewhere, I am not sure. I can say that the sequences should be unique to each entry (ie, the preceding and subsequent dates in the entries- Fy. 8, Ei. 18, etc.- wouldn't have gotten mixed up and will piece together to identify the entire sequence of both my edits and the original authorship). I'd say just pick whichever best fits your preference and use that, and excise the other.
