Mystara Back in Print!

Weird red metals, dominions, immortals, hollow planets, invisible moons, and a lot of glorified magic zeppelins. It's all here.

Shrink wrapped? What, are we collectors now? :D

I still have my boxed set, but I'm buying the POD series as well :ugeek:

What does the CD offer anyway? If anything, a manuscript would be more valuable.

Any word on GAZ11 The Republic of Darokin? Or anywhere I can source a print copy without shelling out ridiculous amounts? For some reason I can't understand Darokin seems to be less popular generally, but I think it gives great scope.

A re-scan of GAZ1 Karameikos has been uploaded a few days ago, with the poster map added as separate jpgs (as they did for Alfheim a while back). Still, no POD for it. But getting it printed on your own is permitted. I asked as much a while back.

EDIT: the new scan is really an improvement. Lighter colors, better readability overall. Worth the download.

IIRC the CD offered room descriptions and dialogue between assumed party members as well as some musical pieces. I have never used it in actual play, but I think you need the CD in order to play the adventure properly.

I agree that a manuscript would be very valuable.

I might give it a try and hear into it tomorrow. I agree that a manuscript would be a good thing.

Yeah, I´ve seen @Ambrevilles tweet today. So, the new scan was probably needed for this. I just ordered a printed copy, just because I could now.

So how do these two differ from GAZ1 and GAZ3? If I have the gazetteers, what is the value in these?

I generally prefer the Gazetteer versions to the AD&D Boxed sets for Karameikos and Glantri, but the boxed sets do offer different/new content.

Karameikos: Kingdom of Adventure
New material includes
  • AD&D 2nd ed Rules adaptation
  • New maps, new art, handouts. Some of it is neat. Other parts are meh.
  • Adventure booklet (new)
  • Setting updated to AC1010
  • New setting information about Mystara in general, including Immortals, the Known World etc.
Glantri: Kingdom of Magic
New material includes
  • AD&D 2nd ed Rules adaptation. Some of it is neat. Other parts are meh.
  • New maps, new art, handouts
  • Adventure booklet (new)
  • New Spells
  • New Progeny Race
  • Setting updated to AC1010
om of Magic[/size]

Probably more, but that's what I remember just from memory. In the reprints, the handouts, poster maps etc are folded into the books so for those it might be better to get the PDF. Although for maps specifically, I am not a big fan of the AD&D maps. I would rather stick with Thorf's maps.

Overall, I only recommend these boxed sets for people who don't have the gazetteers unless you are:
a) a completionist
b) planning to use the AD&D 2nd ed rules
c) very interested in the Post-WotI setting.

Thanks for sharing this Havard, I am a completionist re: Glantri at least and have never owned G:KOM. Never purchased like this before and I'm a little confused by the different formats they offer and could only find on their site a description of the limitations of scanned image files.

Does the multiple file formats price get you just a PDF that you can read on computer or print out if you wish? I'm assuming that with the higher priced softcover/hardcover options THEY actually print it all out, bind and ship to you?

Multiple files option means you get both the PDF(s) and a physical copy. In the case of the boxed sets, they turn all the booklets/contents into a single book. My favorite so far is the Dawn of the Emperors Hardcover.
