Module B4 "The Lost City" Campaign Sourcebook

Weird red metals, dominions, immortals, hollow planets, invisible moons, and a lot of glorified magic zeppelins. It's all here.

Module B4 "The Lost City" Campaign Sourcebook

Post by paleologos » Thu Mar 22, 2018 12:20 pm

I have finally completed the "The Lost City" Campaign Sourcebook - a sort of compendium of all things B4:

here's the link

Retrospective: The Lost City, by James Maliszewski
Memories of Tom Moldvay, by Bob Kindel
About the Artist, from “The Art of Jim Holloway”
Printing History, with notes from the Acaeum
Origins of the Lost City, by Demos Sachlas
Worship of the Ancient Gods, by Demos Sachlas and Andy Campbell
The Cynidicean Mosaics, by Demos Sachlas
Holmes and the Lost City, by Zach Howard
Notes on the Underground City, by Jason Cone
Expanding the Adventure, by Demos Sachlas
New Monsters, by Demos Sachlas
The Emirates of Ylaruam, by Lowell Francis
The DM’s Guide to Cynidicea, by Geoff Gander
Review: “Mystara: Return to the Lost City”, by Scott Rogers
Review: “Masque of Dreams”, by Scott Rogers*
*with some previously unpublished artwork by Michael Kaluta!
Review: “Elder Evils”, by Demos Sachlas
2013 Gen Con Championship, by Tom

I'm still working on a separate document involving my underground city expansion.

Enjoy!

Excellent work ! Downloaded.

B4 was the module that turned me away from long multi-layered dungeon crawls. Looking back I believe I was too young (and too new to DMing) to understand and role-play properly the politics between the factions inside the pyramid. I'll certainly read this document with great interest.

Thanks!

Hope you liked my summary/overview of the Cynidicea gazetteer. I'd be happy to make any changes.

Thanks for compiling this, it is very interesting. The german translation appeared 1984, as far as I can tell. It should be identical to the 4th US print.

This looks fantastic! The Lost City was always one of my favorite adventure modules from back in the day. I'm very excited to read this campaign sourcebook that you have put together.

Thank you! :D

You're welcome - it was a lot of fun!

The expansion of the underground city is at 28 pages and counting. The maps are all done, but I'm revising the text in order to better reflect the material in the actual sourcebook.

I've just now found out that you finished this by clicking on a December 18th 2018 old link! Congrats, Pale! I know this has been in the works for a long time, and from what I've seen at Dragonsfoot, I've been waiting for this to come to me in PDF for a long time. Thank you so much for doing this!
A big THANKS! to Giant Space Hamster & Chimpman for the cookies! (Dark Side be damned!) :D

Very nice. I'm a big Moldvay/Holloway guy, great stuff in this. I'll be running it again soon. Cheers!

Well, I read about three pages before I got to one of the coolest things ever... Moldvay's friend recounting his explanation of his rulebook:
When I mentioned that as boys, my brother and I had started with AD&D and considered “Basic” D&D the kiddy version and AD&D the “adult” version, Bob quickly interjected that Tom Moldvay held the reverse to be true. After all, AD&D really tried to cover every eventuality and provide a rule (or at least a random table) for every occasion; Basic D&D leaves it up to the DM and players to work out how they want the game to to play, and invites tinkering, expansion, and customization. Thirty years later I can see that Moldvay was right.

Thanks, glad you guys like it!

I'm pretty happy how it came together - just need to finalize that underground city portion. It's looking like it's going to be about 32 pages, complete with maps of most of the buildings. Work, life, kids getting in the way!
