Vyalia Elves

Weird red metals, dominions, immortals, hollow planets, invisible moons, and a lot of glorified magic zeppelins. It's all here.

Vyalia Elves

Post by chook » Tue Sep 04, 2018 4:15 am

Hi Fellow Grognards,

I am working on converting Mystara to Rolemaster and chasing details on the Vyalia elves. I have Dawn of the Emperors which seems to have the most information on the County of Vyalia however was wondering if there is more cultural detail in B10? I have asked at DriveThruRPG however there was no answer. The information that is available at Pandius and more broadly online is excellent however I was looking to just confirm as much canon data as possible.

A little bit. The format in B10 tells us the symbol, appearance, weapons, and home/lair of the various tribes, and we get detail on the Lake of Lost Dreams.

That is perfect and well worth the money. Part of what I am doing is trying to create a bit of a player guide much like the 5E one but with Rolemaster information so this will be sweet.

Thank-you so much for the information.

To clarify, by "various tribes" I meant "various demihuman and humanoid clans and tribes." The Vyalia are one tribe (clan, actually), so there's a total of four lines about them in that section.

This is in contrast to Dawn of the Emperors, which described six different Vyalia clans. In B10 there's only one. I think they seem most like DotE's Etheredyls.

Thanks very much Sturm. I have been looking through the articles on Pandius and they are very good. I hadn't come across some of those so thanks for the extra links :). What I was hoping for was a little more guidance on the skills that the different Vyalia Clans get similar ot the Alfheim Gazeteer but I think that I can probably make that up based on the Dawn of the Emperors text.

The migration information there is great for trying to work out what elven races there are. The standard Rolemaster elves are all Tolkien based and there are some significant difference, the least of which is that elves in Mystara are not six and a half feet tall :).

Definitely. I'd use DotE as the primary reference for the Vyalia, as in Karameikos they are little known. For skills, you can also check the Northern Reaches Gazetteer, which has more details on character generation than others. The Vyalia are not terribly different from Alfheim elves, except for their greater familiarity with humans (especially the eastern Vyalia --the western groups in the Karameikan territory are more insular).
