Best Karameikos Adventures

Weird red metals, dominions, immortals, hollow planets, invisible moons, and a lot of glorified magic zeppelins. It's all here.

Best Karameikos Adventures

Post by mserabian » Tue Dec 18, 2018 11:20 pm

Hi guys

Just wondering what folks think are the adventures that best take advantage of the flavor and background of Karameikos as described in GAZ1. I know lots of people prefer the pre GAZ Karameikos, but to me GAZ1 is like the Ur D&D setting but so much of the B series having beeen written before GAZ1 (while they are really cool adventures) don’t take advantage of all the fantastic stuff that GAZ1 makes available (and again I understand they can’t because they were written before GAZ1)...

So for me B10, B6, Hail the Heroes, Night of the Vampire, and Eye of Tradar, plus one from dungeon I just discovered Of Nests, and Nations are the most Karameikos themed adventures out there... what do you guys think? Also are there any others like these out there?

Indeed. I'd add B11/B12 to the lot.

I especially like B10 and I liked the precepts of "TSR 2515 The Mighty Argos" and "TSR 2516 The Iron Ring"
I did only see snippets, yet these were enough for me to want to buy them
...however...cruel as reality is  , TSR never released them :o ...and they became vapourware :(
2516 was more or less equal to B10 in setup yet much smaller
2515 was a single run an the dragon to decrease its power...
both as far as i have ever read/known

I must check but I have somewhere the original add to these adventures at least the covers were known
I have sought further, but can't even remember who wrote these, maybe he/she could inform us on these.

There is a whole section of fan adventures in the Vaults of Pandius which add a lot of flavour to Karameikos, expanding greatly the canon material: http://pandius.com/karameik.html#adv

From what NPCDave said in this thread https://forum.rpg.net/index.php?threads ... 9/page-154, it seems they only appeared in some distributor list, so maybe not even a first draft was ever made of them.
Anyway thanks for the info, worth mentioning in my incoming Threshold article :)

"The Treasure of the Hideous One" from AC2 (Combat Shield and Mini-Adventure) is set in Karameikos, definitely pre-Gaz

There are several dungeon magazine adventures set in Karameikos, see D&D/ Mystaran Articles in Dungeon Magazines by David Keyser: http://pandius.com/dungeon.html and Mystara Collector's Guide by Echohawk: http://pandius.com/mclctrgd.html
B1 and B8 were later officially placed in Karameikos too (or just over the border in Darokin in case of B8). Anyway in Threshold issue #22, due in February, I will have an article about Karameikos adventures and how to connect them.
Personally B10, Hail the Heroes and Night of the Vampire may be my personal favourites, mostly because they are definitely the ones which contain more background on Karameikos, and also because they have the more interesting plots, even regardless of the setting.

I haven't found it, yet, but When I will post it here. It was some kind of Add with pictures of the modules.
Also At the Euro Gencon 1995 I have seen some snippets of the text, by the writer (or cowriter/contributor)of of one of these modules, however, I have forgotten who he was over all these years.

Castle Mistamere + B1-9 in Search of Adventure are superclassic adventures that helped so many players entering the world of RPGs and can't be forgotten.

I've run the sword of Justice from Dragon 92 many times with great results; In the Dread of Night from Dungeon 24 is supposed to be 25 miles west of Radlebb Keep; Hrothgars Resting Place from Dungeon 25 is west of the Kelven moor; Tarfil's Tomb from dungeon 27 is also supposed to be on the moor

I truely love B10, ran it four times already.
I played Hail the Heroes and besides the horrible CD it was a good inroduction but i'm wondering if Night of the Vampire is really good?

Never played but read it, I think is a good adventure with many interesting characters, action and intrigue. Somehow similar to the plot of Dracula, but still worth playing..

I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned this elsewhere, but Rich Baker posted some thoughts on this adventure on his old blog a while back...

There seemed to be a lot of that in the mid-to-late 90s TSR.....
