Vaults of Pandius Geocities Links

As you can probably guess, the Vaults of Pandius Links Page has a lot of geocities links on them. Now Geocities is gone, so those links are broken. I wish I had thought of using the Links Page (which still happens to be the biggest collection of sites) to download more of the geocities sites than I found.

Very good work there, copperblade! Hopefully all the sites will eventually be given the green light to be hosted on the Vaults.

(I don't know why the table bbcode generates this big gap...)
Each carriage return character between the initial TABLE tag and the closing TABLE tag will cause one line of whitespace above the table. This can be fixed by removing all those carriage returns, but unfortunately that makes the resulting code almost impossible to edit later without machine assistance. I decided the current solution was "good enough", in that it is functional, although if there are any coders who can improve on it, I wouldn't mind knowing about it.

Hi Guys...I jus posted the link to Reocities in Tabard Inn. Riocities is where a lot of the Geocities content was put into 'storage' for better love of the word. You might find missing stuff there...

Ok, at least I can make it a bit shorter knowing that. If you want to send me the code, I can take a look. I'm usually pretty good at writing parsing code, but I haven't seen this one yet (and would have no way to test it).

off course it will be updated at the next site update ...

Yeah, I just want to echo my thanks to all involved in saving these sites. This was a lot of work, but I'm really happy we have this information saved somewhere.

For my own page (/gawain_viii/mystara), I was undergoing a site overhaul at the time the announcement was made. All the data on the site is on my local machine. I've already spoken to Shawn about hosting me once my overhaul has reached a reasonable point.

No worries, however, my site will not be lost to the Bead of Oblivion... I promise.

My site has now been moved to Angelo's domain, and slightly re-imagined.
The new "Classic Campaigns", at the moment consists of only a name change from the original, is now located at http://classic.mystara.us/.

CopperBlade, could you please update your first post? (I would do it myself but I promosed Ashtagon that I'd only use my Mod powers for good and not evil.)

Cool Roger! Hey, our sites are sort of Sister Sites now that we are both on Angelo's mystara.us domain. Maybe we should add some sort of of feature linking the various mystara.us sites together? Your site looks really good btw! :)

Yikes! It looks like there are some dead links in the gazetteer section. Everything except for Karameikos is giving a 404 error. For example.....

http://classic.mystara.us/darokin.html

I know it looks bad on me, and it's extremely annoying for you, but that's a result of having a "living" website. Not everything is written down. As I complete each page, it gets uploaded. The three options available to me are (1) don't link anything until the associated page is done--forcing me to add in the links for every other page, essentially updating the whole site fresh just for one page; (2) create a generic 404-redirect page, which I don't know how to do; or (3) leave the links dead, pointing to the address of the page that will go there, and wait till I make that update.

Obviously, option 2 is the best solution, but since I don't know how to do that... I can make the page, but I don't know how to go about redirecting broken links to the 404 page. I guess it's a server-side thing Angelo might know about, I'll have to ask him. Option 1 is NOT under consideration. That leaves 3, for now.

option 2...

creating a file called ".htaccess" (no filename, just an extension). Its contents should look something like this...

Code: Select all

ErrorDocument 404 http://www.mydomain.com/404.html
Then the "404.html" document contains whatever you want your dead links to be redirected to.

And now I know how! Thans Ash. I'll get that going here tonight. Y'all should know by the time you wake up if it works or not.
