Hi! (Bruce Heard Q&A)

Weird red metals, dominions, immortals, hollow planets, invisible moons, and a lot of glorified magic zeppelins. It's all here.

Hi Bruce,

according to Wikipedia, you were also involved with the translations of D&D into german in the early 80ies. As I am trying to piece together a history of D&D in Germany, I would love to know if you can recall anything about these translations specifically, and of the german company and the people involved. If you should have absolutely too much time on your hands  , you could read my ramblings on that here:

Nice picture in Dragon #113 of you with the letter stuck to an axe tip, btw. :D

Hi! I'm not sure what you found that tied me to German translations, but I can assure you I had nothing to do with the German market.

Thank you for your prompt reply. To clear that up, I was mislead by a statement from your wikipedia entry, which was in turn quoted from Dragon #113 (Sept. 86 issue, TSR profiles). There is stated that "He also coordinated outside translators who turned the games into German, Italian, and Spanish." This was noted regarding your earlier work as translator for the french edition. I mistook that as more of a involvement with these translations than it was. Thanks for your answer.

Even then, I'm not sure where the quote "coordinated outside translators who turned the games into German, Italian, and Spanish" came about. I wasn't involved with those.

So that is a way how wrong information enters sources we deem reliable. Somebody probably mixed up some information somewhere, it gets printed, and gets copied into other informations. And now there is misleading information included in Wikipedia. Always check the sources!

I have just noticed a certain Mr Heard was a playtester and a proofreader for AD&D's Oriental Adventures.. did that have an influence on the cultures in Ochalea & Myoshima?
