Now you realize I'll be expecting at least some of you to playtest the thing and return with feedback so I can fine tune it! It's been a while since I've written an adventure from scratch. And if you think you're geeking out, where does that put me???

I think that can probably be managed. :ugeek:

What edition rules is this likely to be, or will it be edition-neutral?

Hi Bruce!

I can't tell you how much enjoyment my friends and I derived from your work in Mystara. It was a happy coincidence that most of my initial D&D playing experienced occurred as you worked on the Princess Ark and Gazetteers. I often find myself looking over today's D&D/RPG offerings and wishing they had a fraction of the fun and character of your work. I'm looking forward to the new adventure! :D

Hello Mr Heard,

WE'RE NOT WORTHY! Sorry, had to get that out of my system..

I know I may be asking too much here but is there any chance you could post here or on your blog old notes or files you had on Mystara?
Either relating to unreleased future products http://www.acaeum.com/library/mystara.html)
Or from released products - similar to a DVD's deleted scenes, bonus material etc.
Unused Ark material or anything Mystara related really.. your notes and spreadsheets from the late 1990's were much appreciated, so thank you for your post-TSR contributions.

I consider your contribution to Mystara's development as others would have E Greenwood to the Realms, G Gygax to Greyhawk, Weis & Hickman to Dragonlance. No pressure :D

LOL! Thanks for all the praise. I really have very little remaining that hadn't been published. I'll dig around and see what may be lurking in the dark recesses of zipped up folders backed from several disc drives that died on me in the past 15 years...

Another quick question for you Bruce:

Do you remember any details about how Blackmoor ended up on Skothar in the Hollow Word map? The Gazetteers seem to suggest that Blackmoor was in the Known World, so I was wondering if there was a concious decision to move it (because or other contradictions that caused, or something else)?

As to your blog, I think you are doing great! You already have lots of high quality content up there. I could see that some more features could be added. A search feature may be useful later on for instance. Also, I have found that signing up as a follower to other blogs or adding links to them from mine usually means that person will return the favor. Its a good way of expanding your readers. Also, I would definately create a profile signature here with a link to the blog. :)

Edit: just saw your latest post. Will comment on that as soon as possible :)

IIRC The Blackmoor project came up before Hollow World was really up and running, so to speak. I had to move it out of the Known World because of design contradictions and, basically, no good place to put it. It was relegated to Skothar which was essentially a blank area. Blackmoor was interesting but really not well integrated with Mystara. Management and marketing wanted to have Dave Arneson's material attached to Mystara because or their common connection to Basic and Expert rules, and so the non-negotiable "request" came down to accommodate Blackmoor. The whole thing was well-intentioned but terribly awkward. It should have been designed from day-one to fit Mystara and not pretty much slapped onto it.

Thanks for the info here. The search bar is at the top of the screen (that's what you're talking about, right?) Clearly, my intent is to add more features -- no problem here. I'll look into the blog linking part. That's a great idea. Profile sig... yeah, I need to do that too... Coming soon at a bakery near you!

Hi Bruce,
and welcome to the Piazza! Greetings from an Italian gamer transplanted into UK :)

I have a question for you, if you don't mind: I have seen you are posting material for AD&D 1e. Is this your game of choice? Has it always been so, even when you wrote material for Classic D&D? Are you still playing AD&D 1e these days? Do you run AD&D 1e combat by-the-book (if it's even possible; sounds like a crazy question, but combat and initiative are the most discussed topics about AD&D 1e, so since you where a TSR insider perhaps you KNOW how to run the bloody thing!)

Thanks in advance,
Antonio

Right now it is. Before coming to TSR, I was an AD&D 1e fan. Since my son got interested in D&D, I took him to a local group that happens to be playing 1e.

Does anyone play by the book? More or less (<---- note the strategically stated words) I do. Gary's prose can be at times obscure and misleading. For example understanding the initiative mechanics can be frustrating. This is where one might stop and ask: "why?" And that's the reason people have house rules or habits acquired after misunderstanding one part or another. Nothing wrong either way. The problem is neither here nor there. Just play the way you like it best.

Bruce,
do you remember any details about the Odyssey Line from TSR? It included rewamps of the Red Steel books under the Savage Coast heading, but also the Jakandor Books and the Tales of the Comet Boxed set.

Besides the Savage Coast books (pdf only) which were obvsiously connected to Mystara, the other products seem to be more their own thing. Still they have a certain Mystara flair about them. Were they too originally intended to be used with Mystara?

The books carrying the Odyssey Logo were published between 1996-1998. I guess these were the transition years between TSR and WotC. Even the last book has the TSR logo on the cover though.

The books in this line were:

1143 Tale of the Comet
2521 Savage Coast Campaign Book
2522 Savage Coast: Orc's Head
2524 Savage Coast: Monstrous Compendium Appendix
9511 Jakandor, Island of War
9512 Jakandor, Isle of Destiny
09472 Jakandor, Land of Legend
