How Old are the Witches of Dymrak

Weird red metals, dominions, immortals, hollow planets, invisible moons, and a lot of glorified magic zeppelins. It's all here.

How Old are the Witches of Dymrak

Post by Chimpman » Sun Mar 25, 2012 6:24 am

How old are the Witches of Dymrak? When did the first enter the area ans begin meddling with the inhabitants? Is there any canon info that tells us about the witches and their history in any detail?

There's no indication, as far as I remember, in Havard's original material. I've made them very ancient, as a group -- active since the first years AC at least, though not necessarily as the same set of individuals.

The Witches in BC 2300

Post by Chimpman » Sun Mar 25, 2012 4:20 pm

Hmmm.... I'm wondering of course, if there is a way I can tie the Witches of Dymrak into the BC 2300 setting, but that goes ever further back than you put them. One thought is that perhaps the Witches are the inheritors of ancient Grondheim. They may have ties to/be descendants of the twisted fey queens who once ruled that land.

After the "Curse" was unleashed by the Troll Queen (that caused all trolls to sink into degenerate savagery) perhaps a few of the most skilled sorceresses managed to maintain some form of control. These would eventually give rise to the hags on Mystara, and a few of their number could have gone on to eventually become the Witches of Dymrak.

Fey are usually reincarnated, IIRC. So the Witches may be periodically reborn, if they are cursed fey.

I dont think I had given much thought to how they had been around either. As I mentioned in the BC2300 thread, the Fey connection is very appropriate. I wanted the Hags of Dymrak to be connected to the Dark Fey Court (Oberon's Rivals), though someone else (Spellweaver?) was developing that so I didnt go into too much detail.

Basically I see multiple Fey Kingdoms in the Dreamlands/Feywild/Faerie. I think the novel Summerhill Hounds mention Seven Fey Cities. I actually like the idea of there being Seven Kingdoms rather than just cities. (of course Summerhill Hounds is not officially set on Mystara).
