Canadian Mystaraphile chiming in and for this you'd have to have a parody of Tim Horton's. Some kind of coffee serving tavern that also specializes in pastries - perfect for halflings!
I can see it now:

[from a notice posted in a square in Leeha]

"Timm & Horton, purveyors of fine Teas, Coffees, and Refreshing Pastries, are proud to announce the Establishment of a new Concession in the fine Town of Nimbleville, at which Location the industrious Public may avail themselves of ample and nourishing Refreshment."

Again, to mirror Tim Horton's pervasiveness in Canada (there's even a Timmy's outlet at the Canadian Forces base in Afghanistan!), we could argue that Timm & Horton is fairly unique among companies in that it actively establishes concessions in remote communities, campsites (mining/lumber camps, etc), and along major roads and trails. In some cases, it might even take over food provisioning entirely through contracts. This exclusivity often counterbalances the expense of operating remotely, while cementing T&H as a brand in Leeha. Some T&H outlets may even operate tiny inns (2-4 beds) where weary travellers can crash, after having a cuppa and a meal.

Getting back to this topic, I've found a list of some of the most common surnames in Quebec, which could be used for any French element in Leeha, should it be desired.

Beaulieu, Bélanger, Bergeron, Bouchard, Boucher, Caron, Côté, Fortin, Gagné, Gagnon, Gauthier, Girard, Lavoie, Leblanc, Lefebvre, Lévesque, Morin, Nadeau, Pelletier, Poirier, Roy (pronounced "rwah"), Simard, St-Pierre, Tremblay (this is apparently THE most common surname), Turcotte

I'm in the process of moving right now, but when I get settled I see if I can find my family tree. Part of my fathers side of the family was from Quebec, Canada. I might be able to find some names to toss in the mix here.

Has anyone ever read any of the Renfro of the Royal Mounted stories? I've dug up titles, but I cannot find any synopses to mine for ideas.

Hi Hausman,

I think that would be great! I had a chat with OD about his temporary departure, and he indicated to me that anyone interested in submitting artwork for Leeha and Alpha should let us know. With that in mind, we will definitely need portraits of select NPCs, as well as a few "action shots" for the interior pages. Also, if anyone is interested in proposing cover art, I don't think OD would mind, either.

Hi Rafael (and everyone else),

sorry for the long wait for a reply on artwork - I'm afraid you came over to the Piazza just as I was taking a time-out.

If you are still interested in doing more of your excellent work for GazF, here are some suggestions for the Leeha gazetteer:

Cover: halflings in canadian mountie apparel in the fore, smaller image of a hockey player on ice, frost giants in the background coming through a forest [I'll send you outline map, if you're still interested]

Interior (pick as many or as few as you wish to do - and feel free to use different frame sizes for the pictures; i.e. not all standard paper size)
1. halflings in a bar: one or two bad singers (halfling versions of Celine Dion/William Shatner) singing with bar patrons covering their ears.
2. top angle view of empty inn at night with rats, ghosts, and imps sneaking about
3. halfling in hockey garb raising a hockey stick-like club over a fallen halfling
4. halfing with brocken teeth holding up a tiny cup
5. battle between halflings and orcs as a dragon looks on
6. halfings under cover of night setting fire to a ship
7. dozens of dragons flying through a gap in the mountains above the White Bear River
8. Collin the Sheriff (no description)
9. Shaedrik (23 halfing with mountain lion scar on right shoulder and collarbone)
10. Alak Dool (evil wizard, pictured in CM1 in the dining scene)
11. Sam Smallshoes (halfling owner of the Shady Dragon Inn)

How's this one going?

Over in this thread I just suggested the possibility of including a reference to Gazzric Whiptoe, a halfling appearing in the Quest Triad novels (Karawenn). Even if Karawenn is not used as a whole, it might be cool to have a little reference to this halfling character created by Douglas Niles. Or if you wanted to take it further, the Whiptoe Clan could be one of the northern clans of Leeha...

Just an idea :)

Not sure how far you have gotten with this OldDawg, but I've been reading some Classic Alpha Flight comics (Marvel's Canadian Super Hero team) lately and this gave me some more ideas:

New Monster: Tundra Elemental
This is a kind of Earth Elemental connected to cold lands. They are sometimes summoned by the Shamans of Norwold. (Inspired by Tundra, one of the Great Beasts of the Alpha Flight comics)

New Monster: Arctic Metamorph
This is a variant of Metamorphs who are native to Norwold. They can only take the shape of creatures native to Norwold; Polar Bears and Arctic Owls are common forms. They see themselves as protectors of the land. Some believe they are the children of an Immortal associated with the land of Norwold. (Inspired by Snowbird)

New Monster: Were-Yeti
Like Were-Bears, these lycantropes are neutral rather than Chaotic and may be friendly. (Inspired by AF's Sasquatch)

New Monster: Wendigo Yeti
Depending on how Wendigos will be treated in the Leeha gaz, there may be room for a Yeti variant of the Wendigo, more similar to Marvel's Wendigothan the mythological version.

Cheers,
Havard

The beaver folk from Champions of Mystara could be a PC race in Leeha area.

Hey, how is the work on Leeha going? I made an interesting discovery which I think could be linked to Leeha/Karawenn here. Basically my idea is that Theodore Baldric is another Leehasire Halfling who has done some adventuring in Karawenn. Lord Lionheart and Ragnard Keep may easily be other names from the region (Leeha, Karawenn or Norwold).

There were some problems with his account, but they have been fixed now. He did post in the main Mystara forum about a week ago. I expect we will be hearing much more from him in the near future :)

Account issues definitely were the cause of absence for the last few months, but the general decline of new material is due to real life obligations (which now include job hunting).

The current rate of progress on the Leeha Gazetteer is about 1 page every 3-4 weeks.

Update on Gaz F11:

Society section in the Ref's Guide has been finished. That means 26 consecutive pages done (other pages also completed, just not sequential to the TOC).

Next up is the Businesses Section (about 3 pages, which will result in 31 straight pages).
