Creating high level characters?

Post by Bouv » Thu Oct 09, 2014 4:08 pm

I'm wondering if there is a place that tells how to create higher level characters. Since I plan on running an adventure, I want to make the PC's level 8 or 9 but am unsure what to dish out for magical items, gear, and rituals.

Alright, I did find it (well, searched online) but it is in the DM's Guide.

You give them 1 magic item a level below
1 magic item their level
1 magic item 1 level above

and enough gold for 1 common item (I think? Forgot this one) of their level.

Glad you found your answer, Bouv. I'm completely useless in the 4E context.

Thanks. The site I found pointed out where to find it but also made a good point. If you had Level 1's and got up to Level X, you'd probably have more than 3 or 4 magical items. So I have taken to read it as those 3 items are the characters "major" items, the ones that will really add a lot to their powers/skills/abilities. Then I'll toss in some more minor stuff (scrolls, potions, a basic magical weapon, etc.)

Sounds like that is more logical.

Have you considered running an imaginary PC through some 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th adventure endings to see what sort of XP and treasure gets dished out if they progress normally?
