Gamma World + Shadowrun = Gamma Run?

A wacky, wily game of postapocalyptic peril.

Gamma World + Shadowrun = Gamma Run?

Post by Dragonhelm » Thu Mar 15, 2012 3:39 am

I am fairly new to Gamma World with the D&D version, and haven't played Shadowrun since the 1e days (I have a few 2e books, though).

While in some ways, the two genres seem miles apart, they do share some similarities. A near-future, where magical powers and cybernetics exist.

My question is, can the two concepts be melded into a cohesive whole? If so, how would you do it?

I would use d20 Modern with these setting books : Apocalypse + Future + Cyberscape + Urban arcana.

- Apocalypse and Future have mutations for your characters.
- Cyberscape has a section of very cool magical implants.
- Arcana has the magical classes and humanoid races you need to do Shadowrun.

d20 Modern is and was underestimated. Its a generic RPG that let you build any type of campaign with the help of settting books. Its the GURPS approach without all the headaches. Start your characters at level 3 so they have access to the advanced classes from the get go. Some very cool stuff in there. Look it up.

An Alpha Dawn/Gamma World mix was done by the Star Frontiersman. Gamma Dawn. I have played the snot out of the second edition Gamma World. We mixed it with The Morrow Project and Car Wars. There were "off world" encounters, but we would rather stay post apocalyptic. If we still played it when Shadowrun came out I'm sure we would have mixed it in there. I think your onto something.

Breathe, breathe in the air.
Don't be afraid to care.
Leave, don't leave me.
Look around and choose your own ground.

Long you live and high you fly
smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry
all you touch and all you see
Is all your life will ever be.

Run, rabbit run.
Dig that hole, forget the sun,
And when at last the work is done
Don't sit down it's time to dig another one.

For long you live and high you fly
But only if you ride the tide
And balanced on the biggest wave
You race towards an early grave
