WotC just pointed to planescape.com on Twitter

Post by Tim Baker » Fri Mar 24, 2017 8:37 pm

WotC just drew attention to http://planescape.com in a tweet. The link takes you to a countdown clock. The page title reads "Plan Escape." Is WotC trolling Planescape fans? Do you think there's upcoming news about the setting?

Seeing April's Fools near, I'd be wary.

Counter ends on the 28th or so...4 days shy of April 1st.

Odd. I thought they had let the planescape trademark lapse.

most prominent theory is that Beamdog is finally doing an Enhanced Edition of Planescape Torment. But seeing how Tales from the Yawning Portal is about to drop, they could be promoting their next book which might be something dealing with 5e planes...

A new request was submitted last September, apparently.

A 4DVENTURE countdown? What could possibly go wrong! :P
night_druid wrote:Odd. I thought they had let the planescape trademark lapse.
They did. And they allowed most (if not all) of the TSR trademarks to lapse too. But that doesn't mean they have made it public domain or given up their IP rights.

Planescape is still protected by copyright law.

Meanwhile, at the Purple Wine Company.

I don't get the reference. From the artwork and the number 4, I take it this is a 4e thing? Did WotC put up a countdown clock prior to 4e's release?

Never mind. I found this in an RPG.net archive, and it explained this interesting bit of D&D history.

A friend of mine, called Marcin, just came up with an amazing theory, based on a "secret" hidden in the HTML source code!:
Plan Escape website wrote:

Code: Select all

<html>
	<head>
		<script src="js/jquery-1.9.0.min.js"></script>
		<script src="js/flipclock.min.js"></script>

		<link rel="stylesheet" href="css/flipclock.css">
		<link rel="stylesheet" href="css/countdown.css">

		<title>Plan Escape</title>
	</head>
	<body>

<center><h2 style="font-size: 26pt;"></h2></center>
		<div class="centered">
			<div class="clock" style="width: 620px;" secret="0x50 0x53 0x54 0x45 0x45"></div>
		</div>

		<script type="text/javascript">
			var clock;

			$(document).ready(function() {

				// Grab the current date
				var currentDate = new Date();

				// Set some date in the future. In this case, it's always Jan 1
				var futureDate  = new Date("March 28, 2017 2:00:00 PM PDT");

				// Calculate the difference in seconds between the future and current date
				var diff = futureDate.getTime() / 1000 - currentDate.getTime() / 1000;

				// Instantiate a coutdown FlipClock
				clock = $('.clock').FlipClock(diff, {
					clockFace: 'DailyCounter',
					countdown: true,
					hideLabels: true
				});
			});
		</script>
    <script>
      (function(i,s,o,g,r,a,m){i['GoogleAnalyticsObject']=r;i[r]=i[r]||function(){
      (i[r].q=i[r].q||[]).push(arguments)},i[r].l=1*new Date();a=s.createElement(o),
      m=s.getElementsByTagName(o)[0];a.async=1;a.src=g;m.parentNode.insertBefore(a,m)
      })(window,document,'script','https://www.google-analytics.com/analytics.js','ga');

      ga('create', 'UA-28436340-12', 'auto');
      ga('send', 'pageview');

    </script>
	</body>
</html>
He says that secret="0x50 0x53 0x54 0x45 0x45" is the hex values for "PSTEE", which means Planescape: Torment Enhanced Edition! :shock: :o

What do you think?

Is this the website of a new computer game for Planescape?

Could that be a tie-in to a new 5th Edition product?

I think that's a pretty strong argument for the site announcing PS:T in a few days. However, the timing would be about right for WotC to announce their next physical product, too. I'm still holding out hope that the announcement can be for both at the same time. :)

I think it would be fairly easy for them to create an adventure that takes players from Faerûn to Sigil and back (and then do some D&D Adventure's stuff in Planescape and open up Planescape on DMs Guild).

Colour me unimpressed. Planescape was never my cup of tea. Even if Planescape is on their radar, I'd much rather we see a 5E Manual of the Planes first.

I want to rage-disagree with those first two sentences, but the third I actually agree with. Much as I love Planescape, "the cage" is just a setting like any other; we have much more need of a properly detailed guide to the various planes, since ALL settings can make use of those.

One day and forty minutes left.

Who is planning to camp on the Plan Escape website tomorrow to watch the countdown hit zero?

+1. I'm not interested in being herded, or participating in a manufactured hype, not even for something I actually care about. The fullness of time is soon enough.

It's up.

Looks like an upgraded version of the old PC game Planescape:Torment. I've never played it myself but heard it was excellent.

It does look good. I wonder if there will be any new content, that could be raided and used in a tabletop game. :?

From what I have read there is no new content just fixes and updates to fix bugs, more user friendly.
