Advising's Effects on New Families in a Dominion

Discuss B/X rules, BECMI rules, Rules Cyclopædia, and the crunchy bits from the gazetteers here.

Advising's Effects on New Families in a Dominion

I could have sworn I remember a chart showing the effects of various amounts/methods of advertising in attracting new families to your dominion but I can't seem to find it anywhere?

Does anyone remember this chart also or I am just delusional? :)

I don't remember anything like that for BECMI - I've just scanned through the Companion player's and DM books just in case my memory was playing up, and found nothing.

Maybe 1e has something like that ...

It may be 1E but I didn't think so. I've checked all the rule books BECMI and RC and couldn't find it either. I know it has to be either 1E or BECMI since I've never played anything other than those two, but it may have also been in either a gazetteer or module since I have plenty of both.

IIRC it was an article by Bruce Heard in Dragon Magazine.

Thank you. You wouldn't happen to remember which issue would you?

You need the DragonDex! I've found this index very helpful. Follow the link, then scroll to the bottom. Go to the index of authors and find Bruce Heard. It lists all the articles he's written, with references. None of the titles strike me as obviously being what you're looking for, but it will at least narrow down your search.
"It is often asserted that discussion is only possible between people who have a common language and accept common basic assumptions. I think that this is a mistake. All that is needed is a readiness to learn from one's partner in the discussion, which includes a genuine wish to understand what he intends to say. If this readiness is there, the discussion will be the more fruitful the more the partner's backgrounds differ."

Try Dragon 190, 'Known World Grimoire'. That might be what you're thinking of.

In the back of my mind is the idea that there was an earlier mention though; is it maybe in one of the CM series modules? CM1?

That's a nice find Philosopher. If anything I'd say chances are it is in one of the Known World Grimoire articles (if anywhere), but I don't remember it offhand.

Dragon 190 (February, 1993) has a two-paragraph "resettlement" section on p.44, which discusses offering land grants and hiring town criers and the like to promote it. First paragraph has costs, second paragraph has results.
