[Fantasy Earth] Setting from the Avalanche Press d20 Modules

Post by Havard »

I came across a list of the old Avalanche Press d20 Modules at Wayne's Books:
  • The Last Days Of Constantinople: Role-Playing Adventure In The Byzantine Empire 1453
  • Ragnarok! Tales of The Norse Gods
  • Greenland Saga: The Lost Norse Colony 1454
  • Jade & Steel: Role-Playing In Mythic China
  • Twilight of Atlantis
  • Vlad The Impaler: Blood Prince Of Wallachia (Compatible with The Last Days of Constantinople)
  • Doom Of Odin: Tales of the Norse Gods (Ragnarok Expansion)
  • Black Flags: Piracy in the Caribbean
  • Nile Empire: War In Heliopolis
  • I, Mordred: The Fall & Rise Of Camelot (Arthurian Age)
  • All For One and One For All (Musketeers)
  • Endless Sands: Arabian Adventures
  • Aztecs: Empire of the Dying Sun
  • Reconquista: Battle for Medieval Iberia
  • Celtic Age: Role-Playing the Myths, Heroes & Monsters of the Celts
  • Noble Steeds: A d20 Guide to Horses & Mounts
  • The Little People: A d20 Guide to Fairies
  • Noble Knights: A d20 Guide To Knightly Orders
  • Viking Age: Roleplaying the Myths, Heroes & Monsters of the Vikings
While some of these appear to be easy to use together, others span different eras. I've tried to group some of them together:

SWASHBUCKLER & EXPLORERS (16th & 17th Century)
  • All For One and One For All (17th Century)
  • Black Flags: Piracy in the Caribbean (17th Century)
  • Aztecs: Empire of the Dying Sun (16th Century)
These would be ideal to combine with AD&D's HR4: A Mighty Fortress.

THE 1450s TRILOGY:
  • The Last Days Of Constantinople: Role-Playing Adventure In The Byzantine Empire 1453
  • Vlad The Impaler: Blood Prince Of Wallachia (Compatible with The Last Days of Constantinople)
  • Greenland Saga: The Lost Norse Colony 1454
THE VIKING SERIES (ca 9th-10th Century)
  • Ragnarok! Tales of The Norse Gods
  • Doom Of Odin: Tales of the Norse Gods (Ragnarok Expansion)
  • Viking Age: Roleplaying the Myths, Heroes & Monsters of the Vikings
These would be ideal to combine with AD&D's HR1: Vikings Campaign Sourcebook

CHARLEMAGNE'S KNIGHTS (CA 8th Century)
  • Reconquista: Battle for Medieval Iberia
  • Noble Steeds: A d20 Guide to Horses & Mounts
  • Noble Knights: A d20 Guide To Knightly Orders
These would be ideal to combine with AD&D's HR2: Charlemagne's Paladins Campaign Sourcebook or possibly HR7: The Crusades

THE MYTHIC BRITAIN SERIES (CA 6th Century)
  • Celtic Age: Role-Playing the Myths, Heroes & Monsters of the Celts
  • The Little People: A d20 Guide to Fairies
  • I, Mordred: The Fall & Rise Of Camelot (Arthurian Age)
These would be ideal to combine with AD&D's HR3: Celts Campaign Sourcebook or HR5: The Glory of Rome

ANCIENT WORLD AND EXOTIC PLACES
  • Endless Sands: Arabian Adventures (Fictional Realm)
  • Jade & Steel: Role-Playing In Mythic China
  • Twilight of Atlantis
  • Nile Empire: War In Heliopolis 1570 BC
Perhaps possible to combine with HR6: Age of Heroes?

Constructing a world of these modules would require time travel I guess?

It would probably be good to tie all three of those product lines together in a single table.

There is also this thread: Avalanche Press Modules?, with some comments about a few of the products.

I've got one or two Avalanche Press books; IIRC, my overall impression is "they sell the cover". I don't recall the contents of the books being all that impressive (or very much of anything; wide margins, big font, and lots of whitespace). I think the entire line, combined, might have as much text as one of the Green-covered Historical books from the TSR era.

That's quite an extensive list. Combine this with other 'period' setting books from other publishers, I wonder how much of Earth's history and geography can be covered....
My hat's off to the 'freaks.' Whenever I see their post counts, I feel like a go-cart at the Indy 500.
