[HRef] [Earth] Egyptian Adventures D&D Resources? +Free PDFs

Post by Havard » Sun Nov 05, 2017 12:01 pm

Egypt was never detailed in the AD&D Href series, but HR5: The Glory of Rome and HR6: Age of Heroes are both campaigns that connect to Ancient Egypt. I have tried to collect as many items as possible that could be useful in building a D&D campaign in a fantasy version of Ancient Egypt. I have included Egypt-like settings as well, not limiting myself to actual historical RPG source material. See also this thread about Arabian Adventures Resources.

OD&D
  • Gods, Demigods & Heroes - Includes not only deities of the Egyptian Pantheon, but also magic items, monsters and lore
  • Dark Tower (Judges Guid)
BECMI D&D: Nithia (Mystara/Hollow World Setting)
  • Gaz2 Emirates of Ylaruam - mostly arabian style setting, but introduces the idea of ancient Nithia.
  • Hollow World Boxed Set - details the Egypt inspired Kingdom of Nithia
  • HWR2 Kingdom of Nithia - details the Egypt inspired Kingdom of Nithia. Discuss this book here
  • Rakasta of Mystara (Dragon #247) - introduces Bast
AD&D 1st Ed
  • Deities & Demigods
  • Legends & Lore
  • I3 Pharaoh (Desert of Desolation Part 1)
  • Oasis of the White Palm (Desert of Desolation Part 2)
  • Lost Tomb of Martek (Desert of Desolation Part 3)
  • Imagine Magazine #16 - Egypt Issue
AD&D 2nd Edition D&D 3E
  • [D&D] Deities & Demigods
D&D 5th Edition
  • Players Guide - Egyptian Pantheon

D20, Pathfinder & OSR (Various Settings and Publishers)
  • Egyptian Adventures: Hamunaptra (Mythic Vistas Series)
  • Hamunaptra: Exile (Mythic Vistas Series) - Download for free and discuss here.
  • Testament (Mythic Vistas Series)
  • Gary Gygax' Necropolis - D20 adaptation of the Dangerous Journey's supplement (see below)
  • NW1 Necropolis: Set's Daughter - Free preview module to Gary Gygax' Necropolis. Download PDF here

  • [DCC] DCC #015: Lost Tomb of the Sphinx Queen
  • [Conan D20] Stygia - Serpent of the South
  • [OSRIC] AA#09: The Lost Pyramid of Imhotep

Non-D&D Sourcebooks
  • Gary Gygax Presents Æsheba: Greek African Fantasy (New Infinties Series)
  • [Dangerous Journeys] Necropolis and the Land of Aegypt (1992), by Gary Gygax -- for the Aerth/Mythus setting. See also the d20 Necropolis books listed earlier in this post.
  • [GURPS] Egypt
  • The Egyptian Trilogy (Yaquinto, 1982) - Class based, percentile system
  • [TimeMaster] The Cleopatra Gambit
  • [Call of Cthulhu] Masks of Nyarlathotep (3rd & 4th edition)

  • [Vampire]Clanbook: Followers of Set
  • [Werewolf] Rage Across Egypt Classic WoD
  • Mummy: The Ressurection Classic WoD

This list at RPGGeek.com was useful for finding some of the more obscure items on this list. That site also includes Non-English titles that I felt were beyond the scope of this thread. Edit: Here's another Piazza thread that had some useful suggestions.

Does anyone have other suggested titles, or comments to the items listed above? How would you build a Fantasy Egypt campaign based on some of these items?

"Monsters of Myth and Legend III" by Role Aids (1992, Mayfair games, ISBN 0-923763-56-2) has a short section on Egyptian deities.

GURPS Egypt is still an excellent historical background resource.

The Mummy's Mask adventure path for Pathfinder takes place in Osirion, the not-Egypt of the setting. Adventure names are The Half-Dead City, Empty Graves, Shifting Sands, Secrets of the Sphinx, The Slave Trenches of Hakotep, and Pyramid of the Sky Pharaoh.

Add to d20 list:
[Pathfinder] Risen from the Sands (Free RPG Day module--the first Pathfinder adventure I ever ran!)
[Pathfinder] Mummy's Mask Adventure Path
[Pathfinder] People of the Sands (includes very brief player's guide for Mummy's Mask)

Add to non-d20 list:
[Palladium] Rifts Conversion Book 2: Pantheons of the Megaverse*

* This is the one and only Rifts book that I've ever owned. It had some interesting twists on the gods to reflect the clash and mixture of worlds/genres that is Rifts (IIRC, one of the major Egyptian gods was secretly an alien intelligence posing as an anthropomorphic deity) but those nuggets were a lot of work to mine from a book full of unfamiliar jargon and references to books I didn't own.

This is my go-to book for Egypt. I've used it heavily for The Kynthiad (the Greek myth game I run for my wife).

That's Æsheba: Greek African - not "Green". :)

It's an interesting concept. It's basically Africa chopped away from the rest of the world and turned into an island...with an invastion from a civilisation similar to real-world Greece. What's weird about it is that NIPI renamed Africa into Aesheba, but didn't bother to come up with an in-character name for their Greeks.

Anyhoo, the book will probably work better with HR6: Age of Heroes than HR5: The Glory of Rome.

Imagine Issue 16 - and probably whichever issue of Dragon first had Mithras and Sobek as gods.

Yikes! Typo fixed.

It was an odd concept, but it follows in the Gygax tradition of creating fantasy worlds that uses variants of Earth maps/cultures. But I suppose this is not all too closely linked to Egypt.

Hmm, looking thourgh my copy, the cover claims it as an Egypt special...
The articles are (in order):
Additional riding animals for AD&D.
The Goroghwen - a new monster that didn't really fit the rules.
The writers' guide to Pelinore.
A short story with an "Arabian Nights" flavour.
Competition results.
An article on the magic of ancient Egypt.
An article on the Mythology of ancient Egypt.
Stats for Sobek (Egyptian pantheon) and Mitra (Persian pantheon) for AD&D.
The adventure Sethotep - one with an Egyptian flavour.
Various regular columns, letter, press clipping, new release revies (including the Metzner Expert set)
A report on Seacon 84
Dispel Confusion - rules clarifications.

Only the middle 4 articles are acxtually the Egypt special. Next issue "The Celts are back" (or that is what it claimed).
"If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it might just be a crow".
