[Fantasy Master] The Abduction of Good King Despot (1988 )

Post by Havard » Mon Nov 27, 2017 8:32 pm

The Abduction of Good King Despot (1988 ) is an adventure in the Fantasy Master series by New Infinities and written by Gary Gygyax . Does anyone know more about this adventure? Is it set in Greyhawk? Or one of the other worlds of Gary Gygax? or a unique setting?

Gary Gygax didn't write that. He just presented it. He says (on the back cover) that he found someone running this years ago (i.e. years before New Infinities published it) and obtained a copy. So it looks like New Infinities tidied it up and made it ready for publication.

The authors are Will & Schar Niebling and Russ Stambaugh.

I don't know how easy it would fit into Oerth, but if Gary Gygax hawked it around for years, I'm guessing that he might have run it in his own Greyhawk campaign.

Ahh! Thanks for clearin that up Big Mac!

To anyone owning this module, do you recommend placing it in Greyhawk or does it fit better in another world?

Well, my long-standing campaign was set in Blackmoor, but I set Abduction in the capital of the Great Kingdom, so, there was a bit of a jaunt away from the main map where the campaign was otherwise set. (This jaunt was just narrated/handwaved.) Because of how the module is written, I kept the name King Despot. I used Rob Kuntz’s Prisoners of the Maze as a sequel. So basically you have two wizards warring for influence and control of the Kingdom, and they have set up competing mazes.
