Examples of Worlds to be discussed here

Discuss published campaign worlds that do not have a specific forum here.

Re: Worlds to be discussed here?

Okay,
I have updated the original post to include various worlds suggested in this thread, but I have not yet included everything from rip's thread here:
viewtopic.php?f=44&t=4095&p=53549#p53549

Obviously, the OP was intended as a list of examples, and not a cohesive one, but its always nice to have as many examples as possible. Thanks to Big Mac for giving me a nudge to finally get this done :)

I have a standing policy that any formally published TSR/WotC setting will get a forum for itself once sufficient interest is demonstrated through posts about that setting. I may extend that to other worlds too, if sufficient interest is shown, but that part is not official.

I doubt we'll have enough interest in any of those worlds; most have their own official/unofficial forums and we'll probably not pick up enough traffic to warrent forums for 'em. But we've got a nice set of forums right now; it'd be nice to see some more traffic in FR/DS forums ;)

True. But it has kind of been hijacked as the official Other Worlds sticky.

Do you think it might be worth adding suggested tags for each of those setting names, so that for example, people add "[Kalamar]" or "[KoK]" but not a mixture of both? Do you think it would also be worth adding the settings that already do have forums to this list (along with redirects)?

This could give you entries like:

Jakandor (please tag threads with "[Jakandor]")
Wheel of Time (please tag threads with "[WoT]")
Wilderlands (see the Wilderlands forum)

That might help people find threads for minority settings and build up new forums. What do you think?

BTW: You have Kingdoms of Kalamar and Scarred Lands twice, at the moment.

The Midgard Campaign Setting is a very popular Pathfinder book whose mood and theme derives from Central European myths and folklore. It's got enough fluff that it can be used for other Editions and retro-clones, and the setting is very detailed and interesting. Some of the more unique features include:

Zobeck, a Greyhawk/Waterdeep/etc. equivalent clockwork hub city with a sizable kobold presence.

The Mharoti Empire, which is the national superpower of the setting where reptilian races are the norm and humanoids are second-class citizens. The Empire's ruled by a conclave of dragons ever-eager to expand their territory.

The world is flat and encircled by the dragon-god Veles. Ley lines are magical conduits of energy criss-crossing the land believed to be Veles' life force. Spellcasters can tune in with them to enhance their spells.

The Underdark is ruled a vicious nation of ghouls, whose undead nature made them perfect for long-term survival in the cavernous tunnels of the world.

It's a really cool and awesome setting, and any D&D player would find it a great source of ideas and inspiration.

Hi!

Any requests yet for "13th Age"? There's a separate forum for Star Wars - what about Star Trek?

A few others: Warcraft and/or World of Warcraft the RPG, Everquest (and the still-born Everquest 2) RPG, Morrow Project, Spycraft and the related Shadowforce Archer, FATE, Stargate, the various all abortive incarnations of Dune, Savage Worlds, and, of course, nearest and dearest to my heart, GURPS...

Any campaign setting that does not already have a specific section on this site can be in this section.

I create new sections as and when there is a) a demonstrable amount of discussion of that setting or rules set, and b) there is a request for it.

See this thread for how to request a section once there has been some significant discussion of a setting or rules set.

About the others you mentioned...

Warcraft: viewforum.php?f=58
Everquest: Unless I am mistaken, that only exists in computer format, so it is unlikely to get a section on this site.
Morrow project: none yet, but feel free to discuss it!
Spycraft / Shadowforce Archer: none yet, but feel free to discuss it!
FATE: none yet, but feel free to discuss it!
Stargate: none yet, but feel free to discuss it!
Dune: none yet, but feel free to discuss it!
Savage Worlds: none yet, but feel free to discuss it!
GURPS: none yet, but feel free to discuss it!

Hi gurpsgm!
All of these are definitely acceptable topics here at The Piazza.

Some of the games you mention are worlds and others are systems. If a world (setting) does not have a forum yet, it belongs in this place. Rule systems without a designated forum belong in Crunchy Bits.

New forums for systems or settings can be created, as Ashtagon explained above. :)

For some reason, people are a bit shy about asking for new forums. I would love for people to ask for more forums so that we could make some more.

Of the ones you mention, I am especially interested in Dune, Savage Worlds and GURPS, but I would love to participate in discussions about the others as well.

A good place to start is perhaps to start a new thread about whichever topic and see how it goes from there :)

Some of us Hard Core Piazza folk start a ton of threads, but I think alot of people appreciate threads started by newcomers and others a well :)

Actually it did have an rpg version. I don't think it did very well.

I have a few of the Everquest books. They're okay. The monster books for EQ are probably the best resources for D&D 3E fans. There's some great alternatives in it. However, they aren't 100% balanced for D&D v.3.5. Monsters of Luclin is designed to be compatible with both v.3.0 and v.3.5, yet it's creatures are very powerful. Most of the creatures with high CRs are well over 20.

I have two suggestions: the World of Darkness games (which are actually two complete universes, but I'm counting them as one here since it's possible to merge them), and the Empire of the Petal Throne, which I know has been published in RPG form several times. I mention the former because I am by far most passionate about it of any RPG not already present on the Piazza, and the latter because it is a high-quality D&D-esque setting which seems not to have been mentioned (although I didn't look especially hard, so maybe I just missed it).

Yes, feel free to discuss those here too.

Those settings already named should be taken as examples. The list of settings that can be discussed here is essentially limited to any of those that have been produced at a commercial level.

I have updated the original post to make this point more clear. Also, in the same post I have updated the list examples of settings that can be discussed, but feel free to add more suggestions there.

I have not included Savage Worlds, GURPS, FATE, RuneQuest etc to this list because they are systems. Feel free to suggest individual settings covered by these and other rulesets though!

It looks like Ghostwalk is now its own forum and can be stricken in the original post.

The Dragon Empire, 13th Age's default campaign setting, may be worth explicitly adding.

The Haunted Highlands is a campaign setting for Castles & Crusades.

btw, there is no need to "ask permission" to discuss a commercially-published campaign setting in this part of the site. Everything listed here are simply examples, not a limitation.

I will add these ASAP. Ghostwalk has now been removed.
