Updated Thunder Rift map

Post by Dave L » Fri Apr 09, 2010 2:56 pm

Using some of the things I learnt doing the Blackmoor maps, I've done a quick update on the Thunder Rift map.

I haven't changed any of the town symbols or text labels, but everything else now corresponds much more closely with the original map.

Let me know what you think.

You can download the full png here.
(One of the things I learnt is that png is a better file format for sharing maps!)

Looks really beautiful! :)

This ought to get the project back on track? :)

If you mean the Gazetteer - I thought you were organising that? ;)

Seriously, if you want to use the map that's fine, but as for the real content, I don't have a lot to contribute.
Like Blackmoor, I came late to Thunder Rift, and those who have played it are the best to write the material, in my opinion.

Okay everyone, here is my "last, final, I really mean it this time, maybe" map of Thunder Rift.

I wanted to get all the text labels in, so have gone for a 1 hex = 0.5 miles scale, and it's offered with hex numbers or without.

Go here to download the full-sized png's from my flickr site.

Enjoy!

Ohhh... does that mean someone needs to do a historical version of the map?

Actually that might save me a bit of work. Yes, thank you, I'd love to have the Gimp file. You should be able to e-mail it to me through The Piazza, or if you have an ftp site I could grab it whenever you're ready.

Not that I'd get started on the project right away - I have a few too many things on my plate at the time as it is... but I'll get to it eventually.

Umm, well as I got engaged just under 20 years ago, I've got a pretty good idea what I was doing with my time. :)

The 0.5 mile per hex and 1 mile per hex versions of this map are no longer available in their "full size" versions on flickr. Would anyone be able to re-post the full-size versions? I need the full-size versions because even on the "large size" version, the labels are illegible.

Did you get my email?

I think this has happened because I didn't renew my 'pro' subscription to flickr.
If you PM me an email address I'll send them to you - the 3 png files are less than 1.5mb in size.

Dave,
if you want I could host these maps on my site. I should set up a Thunder Rift section anyway. Just a thought.

Great maps and these will come in handy for my current campaign (as I wasn't too sure on distance). I actually had almost 4 days (walking) travel time between Melinir and the Black Knigh's Keep!

Is it possible to get the large verison of this map sent to me? I tried printing it but it comes out on two pieces of paper due to the
"web extras" that come with it.

Another question - what are some of the other sites you put on? The Wyvern's Cave is from the "Fast Play" games, correct? Haunted Tower I know but Artarashai, Barrik's Keep, Silvercrest, Mount Dometop, Moltenclaw's Lair, Harpy's Nest, Tomb of Alaxus, & Wight Castle (I know that one was put on the TSR map but never expanded?)

Expanding the map scale is not necessarily a bad idea. :)

Yeah, I think so.

Artasharai is from Rage of the Rakasta
Barrik's Keep and Silvercrest are from Quest for the Silverblade (Silvercrest is a clan name though I made it a location as well).
Tomb of Alaxus is from the Fast Play modules, so not officially tied to Thunder Rift.

Sorry, I don't remember the others right now. I will see if I can dig out some of my old notes.

I'm sorry I didn't reply to the requests in this thread.

My wife broke her hip back in March, and I damaged the tendons in my arm whilst clearing out the shop when we closed our business. Typing it still a one-fingered operation for me, so the number of forums I've been visiting is limited.

I have re-subscribed to my Flickr account, so you should all be able to download all sizes of the maps now.

Havard, I'm happy for you to host any of the maps along with the Blackmoor maps. They were made for the community to be able to enjoy and use them, and if having them on your site means more people get to see them, that's fine by me. :)

They might already be hosted in the Vaults of Pandius, if not someone should point these out to Mr. Stanley so that they are.

Edit: Found it?
Thunder Rift numbered hex map good for a wilderness exploration oriented campaign set in Thunder Rift.
