Kickstarter Projects

Post by Bouv »

Found a few Kickstarter projects that our members might be interested in. If you find any other ones out there, feel free to add them to the thread!

Dungeon Architect Cards - less than 48 hours left, fully funded already. If you enjoy dungeon tiles, this might be right up your alley!

Darkplane - a 5E campaign setting. Not too sure if there is any "crunch" in this one or just "fluff", but it seems interesting.

Shadow of the Demon Lord - a dark fantasy/horror RPG

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/43 ... f=category

The Folio #2 - 1E & 5E editions of adventure modules

More Kickstarters:

The Lost City of Gaxmoor - Troll Lord Games is updating the setting for the Castles & Crusades system (instead of d20) and looking to make it a hardcover book. They are still at the "early bird" special giving you both a print and digital copy of the book for $25 (but that ends tonight!). Some cool swag for those higher level donors. It has met its initial goal.

Dragoon - play dragons fighting off two-legged invaders

Shattered - A Dark Steampunk RPG

Cool,
I am considering signing up for Shadow of the Demon Lord - a dark fantasy/horror RPG, both because it is designed by Robert Schwalb, whose other work I enjoy immensely (D&D5E, SIFRP) and also the Darkplane one looks interesting, as a possible Ravenloft Homage? There were some weird phrasings used in that second one about him giving the game away to those giving him money, which was confusing to me.

Yeah, sometimes the rewards look weird. The Shattered one talks about getting the playtest booklet for the early tiers. To me, that's not really worth it, I'd go for the whole book but to get that, it's higher than I could probably afford.

For those of you who have kids, or who just want to try unusual, rules-light games, check out Epyllion, a Dragon Epic RPG. The basic concept seems to be My Little Pony: Magic is Friendship done with dragons. My kids are obsessed with both, so it was an easy sell here! It's fully funded, with numerous stretch goals unlocked, and has 7 days left to go.

Time of the Tarrasque: My homebrew Pathfinder campaign (2017-).

Not rpg, but rather a card game, but it might be fun to Have A Cow.

Curse you and your information. I was happy in my ignorance. :) (Interestingly despite having multiple editions and many supplements, I haven't played much Car Wars.)

I forgot to post this back Onyx Path/White Wolf is putting out a clanbook for the Vampire: The Masquerade 20th anniversary edition. It's almost met all its stretch goals. I've heard mixed things about other Old World of Darkness kickstarters (my co-worker is still waiting for his product from last May's Mage kickstarter). However, I am seriously considering it myself. $125 level will get you the book, a PDF of the book, some art, and 26 PDF's of the original and revised clanbooks from the 1990's.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/20 ... nav_search

And some updates:

I've gotten the "first edition" of the digital Dungeon Architect Cards and they seem pretty neat (I guess a revision based on fixing mistakes is coming soon). They do remind me of the old TSR Dungeon Geomorphs but with some more added info to help you flesh out a random dungeon.

I've also received the PDF of the Folio #1 and it was alright. It gives you a nice town as a starting point with a few plot hooks. It introduces an interesting concept for a dungeon crawl and why people explore it along with rival NPC parties. Not sure if I'd support #3 if it comes up but I'd consider it.

I know it's a bit late, with only 2 hours remaining, but the Gamers: Dorkness Rising is getting a Blu-Ray release and even the lower amounts have some nice swag - like a PDF of the adventure in the movie!

I've backed the new edition of Blue Rose using the AGE system. This one funded within 24 hours and has been blowing through stretch goals left and right. They just announced several more today (including a steampunk supplement if they reach $90K, which they are almost halfway to).

I saw that one too but wasn't too sure how many were into AGE. I got an update form a Chaotic Life and that should be shipping soon.

Zodiac Empires: a Pathfinder & DnD 5e RPG Fantasy Setting
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/zo ... rpg-fantas

Some of the stand-out parts (to me) of their intro blurb:
"The realm of Vathis is a world in an age of early industrialization where the line between magic and technology is obscure at best, and oftentimes indistinguishable. Rich in history and lore, adventurers roam lands dotted with sprawling empires, devious hidden cults, and ruins shrouded in darkness. While revered heroes march headlong into battle, recently reawakened dragons take flight, transforming both land and sky into battlegrounds. Gritty realism and high fantasy come together in Zodiac Empires, a world built on the memory of great wars, political intrigue, and imperialism.

Notable moments in real-world history, such as the Age of Sail, Prohibition Era Organized Crime, and both World Wars, as well as media sources such as the novels in the ASoIaF series and video games such as Dishonored, have all left their mark on the setting. Expect to experience fierce nationalism, streets filled with pulp action, scenes of noir intrigue, evils lurking in the dark, and corruption both political and physical as you travel between nations."

It reminds me a bit of Eberron, but even from the previews feels a bit more 'organic' in its growth (less design by "rules of cool") and I'm intrigued by its embrace of the pulp and early industrial inspirations. Perhaps this will be the spiritual successor to Eberron for Pathfinder and other rules sets (and even 5E, doesn't seem like we'll get an Realms campaign book, let alone an Eberron one, any time soon).
